Amazon Kindle Fire to enter tablet computer market

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15096655

this is going to sell like crazy.

bronco67 09-28-2011 02:45 PM

I'm getting that. No question.

kane 09-28-2011 02:48 PM

It does look cool. Since it has a version of Android I wonder if it will be able to run apps.

acctman 09-28-2011 02:49 PM

The Amazon Kindle Fire will sell out no doubt. $199 omg gotta get that. considering the ipad , galaxy tab and all the other tabs are like $399+ this is a killer hands down. it does everything the other tabs do and amazon is pretty damn reliable

That rocks. This thing might really be the first rival that the iPad has to worry about.

Bezos talks about Whisper Sync as though they invented it.
iPhone using Netflix App does this.

So just another imitator.

yes

but its sooooo cheap

i hope its got gps as i would get one for the car as a gps unit.

it looks a nice size, not too big.

This is just a holdover model. They want to capitalize on the holiday season. The REAL Kindle tablet will show up first quarter 2012.

It doesn't have 3g, so it won't do GPS in your car without some hacking and a 3g phone capable of tethering. I can do this with my Nook color.

I was thinking the same thing. It's missing a few iPad 2 features. Amazon seems fairly quick with development, there will be a better model coming out soon. It will be called the Kindle Rain!

candyflip 09-28-2011 04:15 PM

This is pretty much identical to the Nook Color that has been out for about a year now.

brassmonkey 09-28-2011 04:23 PM

looks good i want one

kane 09-28-2011 04:24 PM

I also read a story about 6 months ago that Amazon might be giving away basic model Kindles as part of a package deal. For example if you buy 10 Kindle e-books you get a free Kindle reader. Obviously it wouldn't be something this nice, but it could be a big deal for them.

candyflip 09-28-2011 04:35 PM

This is year old tech. Identical to the nook color, except for the Nook having a micro sd slot for expansion.

Zorgman 09-28-2011 06:11 PM

Wait for the 10.1 ".

But for me, im waiting on a decent android tablet. Been waiting a while, until then I will use the ipad2.

Relentless 09-28-2011 07:25 PM

No mic, no camera, no gps, 7" screen.

This is the perfect device for at home email, web etc...
Amazon is building for a narrow target audience.
It will sell like crazy for kids, older people etc...
At 199 it's a very easy gift for most people...

It's all about the apps, user experience and the interface and Apple has it nailed.

I watched Star Trek: TNG last night, and Picard was using a tablet computer. Apple acts like they invented the tablet - they just stole it from Star Trek. Apple never truly invents anything - they just make things pretty.

Though tablet PCs had been envisioned and developed since the late '60s, 2001 was the year the format came into its own. At that year's Comdex trade show, Bill Gates took the stage and announced Windows XP Tablet Edition.

Too bad it has no built-in 3G support...

pornguy 09-29-2011 04:35 AM

Wait a couple months and it will come out with the G Tech so you can use it that way as well right now no G3

its based on apps designed for Android tablets not the mobile phone apps. a lot if not a vast majority of Android phone apps don't and won't work on a 7-10" display

They actually scale and work much better than iPhone apps do on the iPad. Especially at 7in.

Oh please you don't have a clue. Read through this site and tell me they never invented anything:
