Tumblr's Porn-fueled TRAFFIC rise doesn't go unnoticed

Just judging from volume, many webmasters are using Tumblr to augment their own standalone sites/forum marketing/chat marketing and other offsite-based marketing channels. Looks like your activities haven't gone unnoticed by the bloggerati. Interesting analysis regarding traffic sustainability.

But the obvious prevalence of Tumblr smut, combined with the company's public ambivalence about it, means Tumblr's traffic is not as sustainable as, say, Wikipedia's. It's not hard to imagine Tumblr cracking down on adult content to appease advertisers; it would hardly be the startup's first controversial or heavy handed content intervention. If Tumblr were to begin evicting porn, Richard Branson, Greylock Partners and the other VCs behind Tumblr's latest funding round would find the company's numbers had become suddenly less impressive.

I have often wondered about the kiddie porn troves on Tumblr, myself.

Several of our models use Tumblr to promote themselves as well as to chat with fans. It converts nicely.

Tumblr also allows for some nice hotlink action, encouraging people to use them as a photo dump which then drives even more traffic. They are a VC baby so we'll see how this all plays into the mix....

better to use one of the adult hosts, like thumblogger or one of those..

tumblr is known for closing sites easily at discretion...

true dat... dont get me wrong.. tumblr is a fucking great idea and all, BUT too bad that they close sites very easily..

specially adult sites with sponsor affiliate codes..

Most of the adult sites I see there are very amateur and personal, from people who have no remote interest in doing any money, they just put their pics there and nothing else, no sponsor links.

But every single webmaster I know, incluiding me, that was building a few blogs there to try the service, got them closed with no notice and when you contact them , they tell you to register and open another site there... No way, I wont waste my time and risk to get closed again at discretion.

I never tried it for my mainstream business, only ADULT, so maybe in mainstream they work fine?

of course blogger is not the alternative. I recommend any of these hosts:

thumblogger.com, sensualwriter.com, venusblogger.com

Great experience with all of them since 2007 and since 2009 with the last one.
