Anyone use youtube's servers for encoding videos?
I found it easier, to upload videos to youtube account, make them private, the encoding is easier for people that hate programs like ffmpeg getting the correct settings, or other programs like videocharge if you are a noobie in that depeartment.
After its encoded, download all formats, then delete it. Not speaking about Adult videos, so Im not sure about that category. |
Heh neat idea.. btw why can't you do that with adult videos, if you delete 'em right after downloading?
|
Hmm, sneaky. Not very nice, but sneaky.
|
Heh, I didn't used to
|
It would be cool to have a wordpress plugin that you add your youtube account details also the destination of the encoded files, have a submit button to add to the site then deleted from youtube automatically in the background.
|
I been doing that for years, there servers are way faster than what I got.
|
I'm a little embarrassed for never thinking of that myself.
|
what a brilliant idea!
|
Good idea.
|
Can you download the RAW file after uploading to youtube?
|
What a brilliant idea
|
yeah... great idea... if you're 17 years old and you prefer time consuming tasks instead of investing in good software with hardware acceleration. No offence tho!

Cool idea, but I think only limited encoding options are available.
|
The beauty of this is that it is a simple solution available to anyone.

It's a great way to convert videos for amateurs, I agree in 100%, but not for professionals - you would breach their TOS in all possible ways and it's really time consuming. If you think seriously about your business, you invest in proper dedicated video encoding hardware - that's my opinion. |

Cool idea.. Never uploaded a video there before so didn't know you can download all the various conversions.. Gonna have to try that out.

reporting this to google. :warning

The people who will use youtube to handle encoding are doing short clips. Very few of us are doing full-length videos. If I encoded full-length videos I might invest in some actual encoding hardware...but I don't. Many of us are encoding short clips server side. I encode locally and upload since I use stream switching on some of my sites and I need several different resolutions of each video. Encoding a weeks worth of video for blog updates takes ~30 minutes when using multiple cores. Uploading the videos is more of a headache than encoding. For anyone to spend money unnecessarily would be a bad business decision despite what some douchebag kid on an internet forum says. |
that is actually pretty brilliant, a bit amateurish like jhmplondon pointed out, but still not a bad idea at all for someone doing tight budget encoding :thumbsup

i have a script that scans a directory and uploads every video in the directory to youtube from your server

Clever Fris strikes again!
Bastard. How much would you cost an hour for a few little odd jobs every now and then for stuff you would consider ultra simple? It would really be nice to nab you for a few hours every now and then when I run into something confusing. It wouldn't have to be immediate either, just whenever you could schedule it in. I know it's not as simple as that, but you do have all around excellent taste. "Not the face, not the fucking face you piece of bitch trash!!" |

depends what you need. |
We built the Internet with tax dollars that enabled Google to make billions. If you can use some of their stuff to render videos, you should feel free to do it. Very clever if you ask me.
