What would you do if you hacked a site, uploaded a shell, rooted a box, and found out that the server hosts a very popular website that is also a publicly traded company and makes multimillions? Speaking strictly hypothetically, of course.. You have root access, you can do anything. What would you do? Tell them? Attempt to monetize somehow? :pimp

This is strictly a hypothetical situation. If I hacked a multimillion dollar site I wouldn't be posting about it on GFY it's just an interesting discussion prompt for webmasters.

There's not a single company that big that "shares host" with someone else.

If you did that delete all traces and forget about it as if it never happened and hope nobody finds out, that's the best possible advice for a strictly hypothetical situation like this.

If you are going to try to "monetize" it, they'll catch you and throw into one of those private prisons that will be monetizing your sorry ass for the next 10 years or so. I heard they're good at it.

i wouldn't hack a company's website in the first place.
if i were you, id dump your system and forget about them.

or you could blackmail them into paying you money.
