My friend got scammed via FedEx COD.. what can he do?

My friend sent some goods to a customer via fedex COD
he gave the fedex delivery guy a cashier's check with the wrong first name
now my friend has a cashiers check he cant cash and no goods

Is there anything he can do?

Update: after calling the buyer he said to fax a copy of the cashiers check and he "can cancel it" and send a replacement. Why is he asking for this?

sounds like your friend is fucked. if the shipment hasnt been delivered, he can call FedEx and return the shipment for fraud.

shipment has been delivered

Do what the guy asked and go from there.

It's probably a scam... biggest scam on craigs list is bogus cashiers check. First name change is probably just a means to delay the inevitable.

I paid a security deposit via money order, and made it out to a company. The company returned the money order to me, and I just took it to the bank and they deposited it to my own account when I explained the situation.

I imagine cashier's check work the same. If anything, seems like the buyer is trying to pull a scam...

I guess small claims court is your best bet, but it's not always worth it

Why the hell would the customer not just pay with a credit card? Isn't COD in Loserville just as Moneygram and pre paid cell phones? Most likely a scam and for some reason these scammers enjoy fucking with you after the scam has went down just to draw out the process hoping you will eventually give up in frustration instead of instantly tracking them down and delivering justice.

I was under the impression that yes you can always cancel a cashier's check.
