Outranking a Youtube listing in the serps

Hello,

Probably a simple question but I appreciate the input.

I have found a set of keywords that normally would look relatively easy to rank highly for but there is one issue I'm not sure about.

The top 2-3 spots are taken by youtube or other video sites. Their title and description on the google listing is fairly relevant and the onpage text is also relevant, but these pages have zero backlinks.

If I create sites that have basic seo and backlinking, should I be able to outrank these pages?

Thanks for your answers.

It's possible, however Youtube does seem to be favored.

The trick here is to be somewhat more relevant than the YouTube results, there are a few ways to do this but social bookmarking and social network marketing is the best way to do it.

I've got a guide on this type of issue in the works, if you go here and sign up to the email list you'll get notified when it's available.

The basic idea is to build authority, this is a whole subject in itself.

Check those videos are they spammy? Just submit them to youtube and they will be gone.

Youtube is owned by google and these days google is turning into a self promotion engine. Most of the top serps now are held by its own properties or members of the OPA.
If you build consistent backlinks it helps, but the focus of google now is artificial neural pathways on learning machine development, so I would focus your efforts there for a number 1 ranking. Backlinks should focus more on social networks now and not so much on websites anymore. Bing/yahoo will rank heavily on facebook n twitter likes/shares. Google does not have full access to this data and relies more on neural pathways now.
Best of luck.

one thing you have to take into account is that the video bar position is based on SUM of all the videos in the bar

this is a case were it is easier to join them rather then fight them.

is there a bearing on how many views the vids get, the text under the vid is likely to matter too.

but agree with adultking, authority is key!

Or you could do the same thing and make use of the methods to outrank your competition by using high impact video on youtube etc.
