Here's a scenario... a group of 10+ cars are traveling together. Most are clustered to the left (typical), and some are to the right. We travel together for 5+ minutes, without anyone making any progress towards actually passing. Some of the vehicles in the left who intended to pass move right, because you sure as fuck cannot pass on the left. Cars in the right who also intend to pass move left... and some of the cars who wanted to let people by also moved left... some of the cars who have a less vague understanding of the law moved right. Essentially we all swap positions, getting us nowhere. Nobody understands the way the FUCKING law works. Nobody understands the purpose of lane courtesy. No police ever intend to enforce the law allowing the freeway to function as it should.
Everyone ALWAYS gets bent out of shape if someone passes them. Everyone here in the US thinks getting passed is somehow emasculating, and an insult to himself. Everyone wants to throw around "safety" as if getting passed somehow jeopardizes their lives. Everyone wants to cite speed laws as reasons for driving around the speed limit, despite the fact that driving above the speed limit does not directly correlate with an increase in death rate per million. And everyone wants to use rationale such as "I'm driving the speed limit therefore you have no reason to pass me! Get off my ass and stop flashing me to move right! No, I will not move right so you can speed and endanger lives!"
Everyone needs to get off their fucking high horse and move the fuck right unless passing. I can't stand driving in this country. |
