Beer Bread
I made Beer Bread last night, it was really delicious, better than I had imagined.
Also ridiculously easy, you'll hardly believe it's cooking. From memory it was... 3 cups of flour 3 Tbs brown sugar 1 Tbs baking powder 1 tsp salt Mix that together in a bowl. Pour a whole beer in quickly (any kind) so that it foams up a lot Stir about 20 times with a wooden spoon or whatever until you have a lumpy dough. Mine looked a bit dry looking, so I added a couple glugs more beer (called for a 375ml regular bottle, my bottle was 500ml) Put the dough into a pre-buttered loaf pan Pour 60g (~4 Tbs) melted butter over the top (it will look like too much butter, just go with it) Into the oven at 350 for ~40 minutes. The beer I used was a Schneider Wiesen Edel-Weisse Mein Grunes <-- delicious Hefeweizen beer. Bitter with a strong citrus element. Not the kind of beer you'd think to throw into your food, but I gave it a go and it turned out great. No bitterness in the bread. This is the beer: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/72/759 |
I enjoy cooking, that looks interesting. Wonder how Guinness would work?

What a waste of a beer jk :P good tip-ill try it out! the bubbles from the beer could make it very airated :D

I really liked it, especially warm with uhmm.. a little butter. :P
When you put it in the loaf pan, spread it out evenly before you pour on the butter as it will do its best to find the lowest point. Tonight I cut off a few slices from the loaf, mixed some olive oil with butter and a few sliced garlic cloves + salt, heated that up a bit, liberally brushed it over the slices, threw on some grated mozzarella and broiled it for some tasty garlic bread. I gotta admit, it's really satisfying drinking a beer with your beer bread. :) |
guiness would be gross, but go ahead and give it a shot...
hefenweizen isideal anyway since its an unfilitered wheat beer. |
good one, i'm gonna try it!

The important thing to remember when making bread is that it is chemistry. The weights and measuring is VERY important. Especially when it comes to pizza dough. And if you don't make your own, you really should. And your own tomato sauce to put on it too while you're at it.
But yes, baking bread ftw. |
I used to serve beer battered fish in one of my restaurants. Very popular !
