WP question

What do you prefer to use - tags or categories?

Or both?

Also why?

Va2k 09-11-2011 12:39 PM

Both tags help me get listed better along with the cat matching the tags and articles! I could be totally wrong but I know what worked for me and what didn't and what is making sales etc. (mainstream BTW)

DigitalTheory 09-11-2011 12:43 PM

I use both.

Big Dog 09-11-2011 12:56 PM

Use both

fris 09-11-2011 07:05 PM

both of course. tags always good for search food

jimmycooper 09-11-2011 10:23 PM

Both. Tags for model names and categories for categories.

I use both. Categories for pornstar names and tags for generic terms that will help a lot in search results in some blogs.

Categories for pornstar names and main porn niches and tags for moee generic terms in some others.

Categories for... You get the point, all possible combinations but always both...

alf6300 09-12-2011 01:06 AM

ditto, both is usually best

rock-reed 09-12-2011 02:00 AM

We do both. We do not know if it works better. To be honest, No one knows anything.

But... We do both.

bns666 09-12-2011 03:43 AM

interesting replies. i didn't care about tags until recently, only categories.

CurrentlySober 09-12-2011 04:16 AM

I personally prefer poo... :2 cents::2 cents::2 cents:

quoting myself just to clarify:
i didn't mean that it is necessarily better for seo (although it's reasonable to assume that at least it doesn't harm)

i meant it's usually best to have both from a taxonomy / user experience point of view. (of course, if you have blogging just for robots, or have a tube theme, or any other special situation, your case may be different)

The more natural internal linking across pages, artocles and snippets on your site the better. Both tags and categories aid in achieving more internal linking and pages in general. Just don't be spamy. Keep it natural like you were not a webmaster and only wanting to make ALL your content easily found no matter what page the surfers lands in on.

Every once in awhile if you use a rare tag you hardly use link the tag word to the tag result page mid paragraph in a post somewhere naturally.

from user experience its good, may want to click on a tag to bring up all posts with those tags, even though they could be in different categories.
