The Russians got a major breather when the US put troops into Africa because the Germans then moved the bulk of their air support out of Russia. If not for that the Russians would have lost Stalingrad and things might of gone the other way.

Not to mention the US supplied Russia with a lot of Tanks, Aircraft & supplies, so the US with even very important in Russia's victory.
