It was always thought to be 2% of males in the US and UK. Looking at the retail sales figures of offline porn in both countries it's clear to see why they estimated it to be that.

2 UK mags were doing 600K a month. Add the rest and you see where the figures come from.

Today it's no where near that. 0.01% maybe. Absolutely no more than 0.05%.

Ask a few friends if you can see their cable TV bills and hotel receipts.

I know a lot of (ok, a few - I exaggerated) people who'll pay $10 for a PPV porn movie at a hotel or through their cable company that would never sign up for a porn site. Even if they can get the exact same movie - and 100's of others - at higher quality for $30 a month over the internet.

Shit, I can buy Naughty America videos through Rogers Cable for about ten bucks a pop. Rogers doesn't have 50 or so PPV porn videos and channels available out of the kindness of their hearts...

As I said it was thought to be, this was prior to the Online porn business giving porn away for free.

The figure of 600K was based on ABC figures for UK Escort and Fiesta in the 90s. As these were 2 mags out of a total of over 20 in the UK, estimating a total magazine sale of 1 million is under estimating the figure. A bit over 50 million people in the UK, 25 million = 2% a very very conservative figure. Add those who bought videos or cable and not mags and 2% isn't even close to the real figure.

A decent video in the US would sell 10,000. Multiply that by a sales price of $40 and you have a figure of $400,000 for one title.

In 2000 Private printed 22,666,990 magazines and produced 311 titles. Assuming each video would sell 10,000 times in the US alone. 3,110,000 copies. In the US alone for just one company. All this comes from audited account of a corporation. Google some facts.

This is the problem. We think the number of people who look at porn for free shows the number who buy porn.

With the massive numbers looking on a free Tube site and buying nothing I very much doubt if 1-5,000 today who want to look at porn actually buy porn.

Human beings will always enjoy sex...as well as engaging in masturbation. It is our natural and humanistic instinct. And with that being said....online porn will always be in high demand for the consumer.

And if you are a surfer that prefers FREE online porn, that is great....but the images and/or videos that you are jerking off too more than likely originated from an adult paysite so if you sign up...you will gain access to the ENTIRE collection instead of leeching around for the free content.

More people do watch free porn than purchase it, but there is still a huge amount of people that cant resist taking out their card for the instant hit, probably regretting it the next day or when their bill comes in, been there myself, it's human nature :pimp

And that is why adult paysites should update their sites with new and fresh content at least once per week...or twice per week. Believe me, those recurring memberships add up! :)
