In terms of plugins what's good out there to run a paysite members area on WP?

I use Magic Members, it supports CCBill, pretty good.

Wendy Fiore's site was running it at one point, but I'm not sure if they are anymore. They changed their design recently so it's hard to tell. They still have a WP backend, though.

s2member is another option with a CCBill gateway.

i don't understand this stuff about being CCBILL and Zombaio ready - all third party processors need is a protected members area and a database to add/delete members to.

Magic Members is MUCH MORE than that :winkwink: It gives you the option to drip content, sell per scene, offer almost any kind of access you could think of (and adding more soon! :winkwink:). But the thing is all WP membership plugins needs to write the members info from the CC processor into WP users database, so the entire process depends on what CCBill/Zombaio/whatever API's sends back as signup information

This being said, there are different approaches: you could just leave WP open (this is, without members info) behind a protected folder and have another install in your root that grabs teh content from members area, but this approach is old and annoying. Good WP memberships give you the option to extend WP even further :2 cents:

or you could have all the files outside of the root, ive done this for someone, so it generates a new url every x amount of minutes, and the content is out of reach for anyone.

old urls expire and no longer can be used so no sharing.

I have done an aMember to Wishlist conversion a couple of times, we abandoned aMember entirely, however I am well tempted to move to Magic Members now.

If you want a hand doing an aMember to Wishlist conversion I am happy to help you out, or maybe Fris has automated the process for someone and can provide a better way than I can, in any case I'm always happy to help if it's needed.

I think Magic Members seems have taken the lead over Wishlist, of which I have been a great fan. Magic Affiliate is a great product too. They both go hand in hand.

you could install wordpress on a subdomain or subdirectory and then password control it. Just use plugins for video and gallery making.

yes. I don't know about Wishlist, but Amembers to Magic Members might be a bit tricky

I don't have an entire day to explain you how much would you lose just to "save" the cost of a membership plugin, but for starters, let's say you lose ALL functions related to logged in members. Just the tip of the iceberg means 90% of most sites :(

I am considering MM for a new project I am working on. Is there any way to integrate it into a WP multisite network? I would like to use it so a member can pay one fee to join a network of sites sharing one WP database.

Is it really lacking this functionality in this day and age?

Yep just get Unlimited.

it doesn't work with WPMU for sure, not sure about regular WP multisite versions, didn't test it yet.

Yes, I read that on the FAQ, but MU was discontinued for it to be rolled into the core.

I could see it not working to prevent people from just buying a single license then using it across a bunch of separate paysites, but I hope it would work with an unlimited license. I just don't want to pay $300 then it not work. Even if a workaround to be to forward all the joins and logins to a main domain and the cookied members still have access across the network.

Everything else looks great with the plugin, though.

Yes. It's the only WP Membership solution we use now.

Strongbox will take care of the interface between the processor and Wordpress.

Of course there is first the question of whether or not members even need to be logged into Wordpress anyway. You could just put Wordpress in the members directory.

I don't think MagicMembers is in direct competition with Strongbox. They're two different things aren't they?
