HOUSTON (AP) ? A two-week-old Houston-area boy has died after being mauled by the family dog.

The incident happened Saturday night as the baby sat in an infant carrier on the floor of a room in the family house. Harris County sheriff's spokesman Thomas Gilliland says the dog, a Labrador mix, began sniffing the child and attacked him before the parents could pull it away.

The child was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died early Sunday. Animal control officers have taken custody of the dog for quarantine.

CYPRESS, Texas - Detectives say a 13-day-old baby has died after they say a pit bull dog mauled the child inside a northwest Harris County home.

Animal control officers took the large dog, a family pet, from the house.
Detectives say the pit bull, which never showed signs of aggression in the past, was in the same room as the infant who was left in a baby sleep swing.

The article said it was lab MIX -- so maybe there was some pitbull mixed in there.

How many articles do you read about Labs mauling people vs Pitbulls mauling? Maybe that was your point, I don't know.

Excuse me, I have a lab MIX myself, so piss off. Labs are one of the best pets you could ever have.

Don't get pissed off at the dog, because the parents can't protect their kid, and more than likely, take care of their dog properly. There's no way my dog would just randomly maul a baby. Only way he'd ever maul someone is if he got extremely defensive and scared, but that's not going to happen with a 2yo baby. Blame the parents on this one.

Wow, as a lab owner for more than 40 years I have to say I have never known a better race of dog to be in the family. Something strange it that story about he mix Lab..

Any dog is capable of doing this. It is a fact of animal behaviour. Infantcide exists in plenty of species. People just choose to ignore this reality - especially people that treat their pets as equals in the home.

It is tragic but the fact that humanity has become so remote from this provincial wisdom is disturbing too imo because it just results in situations like these all too often.

Dogs abide by a pack order. The dog felt it was higher than the baby, so that was the end of the baby.

and the parents, like a lot of the other imbeciles in this thread give the dog human attributes it is incapable of having and engage in a fantasy where the dog is capable of thinking like a human and realizes what a baby is.

Pit bulls are way worse than labs.. It was probably half Pit Bull or Chow

My newest dog is only thirty pounds. He's not used to little kids. Seeing what he does to his toys - and what he tries to do to my cats - I'd never leave him alone with a very small child.

He loves his toys, but he still grabs them by the neck and shakes them until he's sure they're not ever gonna move again.

Most people who have dogs should not be allowed to have dogs.
