Spoke with PhotoGregg's partner a few minutes ago. Found out that there are a few minor errors in our code that need to be fixed that's affecting the download speed. Also, we've done 10 gig in transfer over the past 48 hours just on our preview pages alone. The combination of these two factors is killing our server. Stay tuned for maximum performance!!

It's too slow to sell right now. Once it is fixed I will give it a go, most of my current programs are falling apart right now.

As well a lot of the graphics and thumbs are blurred. I see a lot of good sites with crappy graphics...just run it through Photoshop and sharpen it up.

Regarding Speed:
Ok, everyone... here's the deal... the site is completely automated with PHP and MySQL... the images haven't been caching properly, so everyone that has been viewing the site has been downloading EVERY IMAGE EVERY TIME. This has been fixed, and should be loading faster once a page is loaded in full for the first time. We are still dealing with bandwidth issues, but as of right now, the pages are optimized at full compression.

Regarding Image Quality:
Currently, we only have PHP 4.1.2 with GD 1.6.2 library installed on the server. The site has a VERY complex admin area that resizes the images, crops them, and stores the information of where those files are located in the database. The fact that these images are being resized and cropped by GD 1.6.2 as opposed to 2.x.x is why the images are blurry right now. GD 1.6.2 only has support for 256 color images. Now, I don't have to explain to everyone on GUI why TrueColor looks better than 256 colors. When the new library has been installed on the server, then all of the images will be recreated and there won't be any blurriness.

We are working on correcting these issues. Just stick around because the site is BLOWING UP with traffic right now.

Just to reiterate for the record what was said earlier by Jerry, he didn't write the code for this site. I did. And as far as the database problems that everyone was getting, that wasn't caused by my code, it was caused by the traffic to the site being so high that mySql didn't have enough open connections in it's configuration to handle it... I solved this issue as soon as it came up.

I don't mean for this post to sound rude at all even though it might come off that way. I just want to set the record straight for both Jerry's benefit and my own. While I have not experienced Jerry's coding abilities personally (although I'm sure they are quite good), he did provide some good suggestions on how to speed up the caching process, so I appreciate his input on the issue. I didn't exactly use his suggestions because it would require a lot of redesign of the site and provide only minimal increase in speed, but he sparked an idea in me of how I could do it without a lot of redesign, so for that I'm thankful. :thumbsup

Well, everything is smooth sailing now. The videos only take a few seconds to start and there's no slowdowns anymore. We are using a SMALL SMALL fraction of the bandwidth now, so all is good. So, for everyone out there noticing the slowdowns before, I recommend checking it out again because it's fast fast fast now. :BangBang:
