The war in Libya is over.
The entire Middle East has ZERO problems and is completely peaceful.
Nobody is starving in any of the countries in Africa.
Everything is peachy keen down in Haiti.
There is no problem down in Mexico.
There isn't a big presidential campaign going on.

Now for one week each of the above all had their week where they were the ONLY thing happening in the world according to our U.S. news media.

But apparently for the last 72 hours or so...NOTHING has happened except for a relatively weak hurricane moving through New York. There were no other events anywhere in the world. And last weeks MOST IMPORTANT STORY IN THE WORLD in Libya? Completely forgotten, even though it is still not resolved.

What a joke our "news" has become. Watching CNN is like watching a re-run over and over and over...Even now I have it on in the background and the "news anchor" just asked a correspondent who is outside in the rain to "Walk us through the progression of the storm"...AS IF THEY HAVEN'T TRACKED IT INCH BY INCH FOR THE LAST 3 DAYS AND GAVE US EVERY POSSIBLE SCENARIO AND THEORY THAT THEY HAD...:disgust

in a related story, nobody gives a crap.

Honestly why even get all pissy about this? Don't like the news, don't watch it.

L-Pink 08-28-2011 09:48 AM

Wonder what percentage of those that evacuated will not leave the next time.

In the beginning days of TV news...the news was basically provided as a public service as the news lost money for the networks. For years the networks tried to figure out a way for the news to make them money and finally found a winning formula. The formula is to make the news entertaining (through hype and a multiple of other methods) and much like any other entertaining show...when the viewers lose interest that show is canceled and a new show is tried out.

They constantly monitor viewership and if a news story loses the interest of the viewers they then move onto another story. The bottom line for TV news...is dollars/viewers...not if a story is an important story or not...and viewers are for the most part shallow people...and pretty easily manipulated.

You forgot about the famine in Somalia that is happening right now.

Reports of dead children being found on the side of the road where mothers have had to choose which children will live as they try to reach camps.

I think everyone is tired of seeing starving and/or dying black people. You don't see a single story about the flooding in Haiti right now due to Irene either. However, there is no shortage of flood footage from the Dominican Republic, which shares the same island, but dark blacks living in tent cities and struggling to survive... b-o-r-i-n-g. Show me pics of a dying Steve Jobs!!!!

No, that was all inclusive in my "Nobody is starving in any of the countries in Africa." part of the "non-news this week that was one of the most important things in the world a month ago" (seemed like Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay couldn't get enough of filming dying children there a month ago)

But I guess everything must be OK there now according to what I see on CNN.

RyuLion 08-28-2011 10:58 AM

I live MY life, just watch minimal cartoons when I was a kid, never watched news or TV period.
No stress, no worries, and happy!
(Movies at the theater I always do.)

My curiosity is too great...but you're right. I could probably never watch the news ever again and it wouldn't make one iota of difference in my life. :(

slapass 08-28-2011 11:08 AM

Turn it off. There have been many studies how people who watch less news are happier then those that watch a lot.

Once news became profit oriented the game was over. We have propaganda now, nothing more, nothing less.

That's true..I think I did see them do a "Breaking News" on his new RV yesterday. :1orglaugh

Maybe Piers Morgan can do a "dangerous" interview with him and sort that whole thing out.
