Official 2012 Porsche 991 photos... wow.

Who here is going to buy one? I gotta save my pennies. This is one incredibly beautiful machine.

PDK, DFI, 400hp, electric steering, slightly lower, a few inches longer, a couple inches wider, 100 lbs less weight, redesigned interior. Can't wait to drive it.

I guess its cool if you need people to know you have a nice car and stuff.

JamesChoopa 08-23-2011 02:14 PM

WOW! This car has always been one of my favorites!

Chosen 08-23-2011 02:25 PM

Nice car :pimp

Kenny B! 08-23-2011 02:28 PM

Very sleek especially for a car that really hasn't changed its style, ever.

Yeah! Gotta let everyone know I have a nice car!

Then I'm going to buy a nice home so everyone knows I live well.

Then I'm going to go out to a nice restaurant so everyone knows I eat well.

Then I'm going to take a great vacation so everyone knows I...

What the fuck ever. What ever happened to buying something for yourself because YOU appreciate nice things?

Most people here are leftists, but jesus fucking christ... Are you a communist?

Do you drive a shitty car so everyone knows you're poor? Or do you just want everyone to drive a POS because you don't want your inferiority complex to worsen?

Let's have the government mandate our lifestyles. Then inequality will vanish, and you'll finally be happy having accomplished nothing.

:helpme

scuba steve 08-23-2011 02:41 PM

not as much as i thought it would be

Lykos 08-23-2011 02:57 PM

It's just wow:)

Rochard 08-23-2011 03:32 PM

It's beautiful - but only 400hp? Hell, my Mustang Cobra had more power than that for one forth of the price.

People don't buy Porsche because they're the fastest things on the road.

And people don't buy Ford because they're the most well made, or use the highest quality materials.

:2 cents:

thickcash_amo 08-23-2011 03:49 PM

looks nice, and I am sure thats the closest I will ever get to one

My Pimp 08-23-2011 03:59 PM

This porsche is really beautiful. But in central europe they will be more expensive.

Paper_Amar 08-23-2011 04:03 PM

The car looks good, but they are getting larger,to fast.
I parked my 993 next to a new GT2RS at Cars and Coffee, and the GT2 was enormous.
This new model is going to be 4" longer. I am going to have to drive one before I can give an opinion.

and I bet there's a honda civic with a ton of engine mods will burn your cobra and it's one forth of your car... i don't understand how people can say stupid shit like that

dyna mo 08-23-2011 04:26 PM

it looks fan-fucking-tastic.

and 400hp for the base model is perfectly fine with me when it gets 0-60 = ~5 seconds. that will beat rochard's mustang. also, this base motor is the same as the cayman/boxster. whoopie. still super sweet.

i love how the handled the new rear window, angling it in at the bottom to give the rear fenders more oomph. hopefully, the u.s. spec car will NOT have the rear bumperettes, hate those.

http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/po...818111_815.jpg

dare i say, it's a suped-up cayman with a backseat and i love it.

The 991 is getting back to the classic styling of the 993. Yes, they're getting larger but they're also getting more fuel efficient, and more powerful. All of this comes at the expense of weight (PDK, larger brakes, larger wheels, additional safety features, etc)... but, then again... this car is incredibly high tech compared to the 993, too.

And there's always the GT3 RS if you're that big of a weight weenie. :)

I'm stoked about the direction Porsche is going in. :thumbsup

Mr Pheer 08-23-2011 04:28 PM

Its nice but to me it looks like almost every other Porsche I see around Vegas.

dyna mo 08-23-2011 04:30 PM

correction: 0-60 in 4.4 seconds with 400 hp

power in the Carrera comes from a slightly downsized 3.4-liter flat-six engine with 350 horsepower on tap. This is enough for a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds when equipped with the optional seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission, or 4.2 seconds when also using the optional Sport Chrono Package’s Launch Control function. Top speed is 179 mph.

DeanCapture 08-23-2011 04:33 PM

I am not unhappy about where Porsche is going. I currently have the 993,a Cayenne S and I bought a Panamera S last fall. Technologically, they are evolving perfectly. I just don't know why they continue to make the 911 bigger and heavier with every new release. There is no need for it. More power, less weight!

Park a 997 next to an early 70's 911 and the difference is dramatic.

Autoblog quotes the CS model at 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. No mention of this being a launch control only spec.

I don't see any mention of a 4.4 0-60 time.

How do you like the Panamera S? I haven't driven one yet, but every time I see one on the road around here I can't take my eyes off it...

In person they seem HUGE... definitely has a massive presence to it. I'm kind of amazed it can hustle like it does.

they do it because that's what most costumers want... there's probably like 1% of enthusiasts and the rest are rich wifes and older crowd... same thing is happening with bmw's, they're getting bigger, look at the new 5 it's like an old 7 series size wise....

It's a good car for interstate cruising. But you are right. It is huge.
I've posted pics of it parked next to my E55amg and it dwarfs the MB. At higher speeds the Pan handles and feels good, but around town it's not great. Visability is poor and it's damn near impossible to find a parking spot for it.
I probably will trade the Pan on something soon. The Cayenne I will keep. It's a great winter vehicle.

even better. i'm looking forward to seeing what the actual perf specs are when this car gets tested.

the base car has 350hp

It's a toss up. I'd pay more to be able to utilize the performance these vehicles are capable of safely achieving without worrying about getting the car impounded and getting arrested by some douche-nozzle revenue collection officer.

But then again, I guess that's what the Laser Interceptor and V1 are for. :thumbsup

yup, see them all day long... probably 25-30 a day around here. Porsche is blowing them out dirt cheap on a lease, like $1200 a month...sat in one the other day, pretty nice inside, big trunk...

Well, you know, these vehicles are all about the details. The materials Porsche uses are second to none. The stitching across the dash. The suppleness of the leather. The stitching in the seats, and across the center console, and feel of the door panels. They are exquisitely built vehicles and engineering marvels... the way the doors close. The weight of the steering. They're built like a fine watch.

If you spend some time in them you'll realize there's a lot more to them than simply their appearance. The Germans really know how to design a very serious vehicle.

IMO they present the best combination of value, performance and over-all experience.

You could buy it part by part.. Perhaps buy a door first, so if it gets too hot you can just roll down the window.

Nurgle 08-23-2011 09:19 PM

cant believe how damn cheap these are in the states, crazy, would love one, but here in Aus the Carrera S will be close to 250k + options, more than 2x the USA price.. argh.. and the turbo.. well no change from 400k

Why are vehicles so much more expensive in Aus?

Wow, that's a real bitch. Come to the US and let's lobby these lawmakers to repeal speed limits. :thumbsup

Jakez 08-24-2011 02:48 AM

Wow what? It's looked the same for.. ever. Only 400hp? Buy a used (probably faster) one, or a 458.

HerPimp 08-24-2011 02:52 AM

The Porsche does seem outdated. Check out 2013 Corvette (16 months till release) sure it will be same price.

It's the only car design which stays basically the same all the time. Some say that that is the charm of it, for me it says they severly lack creativity and originality. Also when you find it ugly, all next models are ugly too because they dont change a damn thing. And i find it an ugly design.

seeandsee 08-24-2011 03:45 AM

my 968 is 18 years old now and has about 250k kilometers but it still looks and feels like almost new

and i can only smile when i read that 350 or 400hp is "underpowered" :error

barelist 08-24-2011 07:16 AM

Actually pretty let down by the 991 design. The 996 to 997 was a huge jump in terms of design IMO. The 997 to 991 just looks pretty small, biggest being interior changes.

I was looking to get a year old 991 Turbo when it became time to get rid of the M6, but now I think I might just get a slightly more exotic 997, like a Turbo S or GT2 for around the same price if not a little bit less. 911 really tank when a new model comes out...

When my wife's lease if up we'll def. get a Panamera S though, they are really growing on us :)
