Anyone prepping for Irene?

I think I better get off my ass and get ready. It could turn west and hammer me. Charley caught me off guard, don't want that to happen again.

You'll be fine.

Saw neighbors stocking up on water today and was about to but with every update it looks like it is going to be further away.

I'm sure I will be able to find some canned goods and water if the forecast changes and Publix spent a shit ton of money on whole store generators. I have two stores within a mile I can walk to if trees fall all over the road. Both are also mostly staffed with local employees.

I did fill my trucks gas tank today.

.

Yeah but history shows they can turn without notice.

RyuLion 08-23-2011 08:27 AM

We're gonna stock up on beer today, then we're ready.
I'm sure everyone at the Bahama's is gone from there..

L-Pink 08-23-2011 08:28 AM

I'm ready. Just give me 10 minutes to close my hurricane shutters.

I'm in in the southwest side so I think we will be ok, but have candles, water, and enough food I think. The thing I hate the most is how bad the gas stations get. Filled up on Mon. but I'll probably check it again tonight.

Babaganoosh 08-23-2011 08:31 AM

I'm in NC now but close to Charlotte so even if it hits Wilmington VA it shouldn't be more than a little wind and a shitload of rain for us.

sperbonzo 08-23-2011 08:53 AM

I'm always prepared, pretty much. Luckily it looks like it won't hit us.

Hurricanes really suck.

4 or 5 hours of interesting wind, rain and lightening, and then 2 weeks of total pain in the ass.....

Diomed 08-23-2011 08:56 AM

Lets pray it doesn't hit the Gulf.

epitome 08-23-2011 08:57 AM

People let fear drive them and others got rich.

Florida is now completely out of the cone of error. Good luck to those in the Carolina's. You may have a Cat. 4 on your hands.

Choker 08-23-2011 08:59 AM

I am so sick of generators. Every year I have to pay to get them cleaned out and running. Even though I put shit in the gas to preserve it they still eat up the diaphrams. And getting them to start is a complete bitch. I see Home Depot has some propane powered electric start ones. Anyone have one of these?

We have a natural gas generator. Honestly we forget it's there. It starts and runs for ~10 minutes once per week. It's pretty funny when the power goes out to the neighborhood and we're the only house in sight with all of the lights on.

The entire house is on the generator and it can supply enough power to run the stove, oven, fridge, washer, dryer, TV and computers all at the same time.

Honestly I wish the power would go out for days during the winter. I'd be selling hot pop tarts and hot ramen noodles for $10 each. :1orglaugh

Yeah I think propane is the only way to go. Portable or big like you have.

Ahh, if you want portable then definitely propane. This generator was less expensive than you might think. All together with installation was around $6k as I remember. An electrician and a couple of laborers knocked it out in a day.

Va2k 08-25-2011 07:55 PM

aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee were FUCKED@#%%$

Lace 08-25-2011 08:03 PM

There is a mandatory evacuation where my grandparents reside so they're coming up to my mothers to stay for a bit. The town even banned alcohol sales after midnight tonight. LOL!

With the predictions changing every hour, who knows what will happen. I'm an hour from the Chesapeake at least and three hours from the coast, so I highly doubt we'll get much besides a little bit of rain and some wind. Going to head out tomorrow to pickup a few items just in case.

I have a portable one being delivered tomorrow. $699 with electric start. LOL. Another thing I'm sick of is wearing myself out getting them started. Now I jsut gotta get rid of the two gas powered ones I have. Both have Honda 13hps on them so shouldnt be too hard to sell.

onedree 08-25-2011 08:59 PM

It appears we will experience a direct hit from Hurricane Irene ... :Oh crap
(Hopefully it's course changes but that is strictly wishful thinking)

i asked my dad if he thought we should leave town, he scoffed.

Its gonna be a bloodbath.
