sandman! 08-19-2011 09:27 PM

i might pick one up.

I'm wondering how tough it would be to get Android running on one. Both Android and the Touchpad's webOS are based on Linux kernel, so I should be able to get it to boot. Getting all of the hardware, such as wireless, working right is another matter.

DateDoc 08-19-2011 09:51 PM

Hmmm an OS that has been abandoned by it's creator. They'll be even cheaper soon unless someone buys webOS.

drmadcat 08-19-2011 10:06 PM

i just realised it does not run android still want one to try for $99 does anybody ship them to Australia

SomeCreep 08-19-2011 11:54 PM

Why would anyone buy an HP touchpad? If people saw you with it they'd probably talk shit and laugh.

V_RocKs 08-20-2011 01:17 AM

If all you do is normal stuff anyway this will work for you without Android. It will surf the web, work with flash based sites, Facebook, Twitter, Email, all of that shit. It just won't have a huge collection of games and other shit. But again, if you are looking for an Internet computer with a touch interface you can kick it with or watch videos on... it works for all of that without Android.

Currently there are Android hackers working on bringing Android 3.0 to this device. I imagine it will have a working version in as little as 2 months. By 6 months a stable version will be available.

So... If you have a desire for a tablet this is a great option. If you have $25,000 sitting in your ass (Choker) and you want to make some decently quick cash, I suggest buying 225 of these and then paying someone $2500 to switch them to Android when it comes out and reselling them for $222 (or the price of one cams PPS!) for a quick double on your money.

DiF0r 08-20-2011 01:22 AM

Nice price

Hope they'll also have that pricing in europe

MrBottomTooth 08-20-2011 07:39 AM

Every single store within a 3 hour radius of me is out of stock. Would have been OK for $99.

lol. i hope you are being sarcastic!

ShowMe69 08-20-2011 10:42 AM

Sold Out already

AZNNC 08-20-2011 10:51 AM

HP.CA has them.
Main page says $150 for 32gb, but when you order comes out full price.
They still have the 32gb in stock. I put in an order. Engadget is saying that people who bought at regular price before will also be given refunds. So I just gotta call Monday and make sure they charge the right amount. If not worse case scenario I just send it back.

FreeHugeMovies 08-20-2011 12:24 PM

Best Buy USA is returning all of them back to HP.

gleem 08-20-2011 12:36 PM

more proof without the Apple ecosystem, other pads are destined to fail with their current setup no matter what specs the tablets are. Apple has the apps, music, videos down, no one is gonna challenge their Ipad without getting those ducks in a row, obviously google has the best chance and will eventually surpass apple.

nico-t 08-20-2011 12:40 PM

what about their laptops btw? Will those prices drop too?

Why in the hell would you want one of those? They make some of the worst laptops ever.

candyflip 08-20-2011 03:37 PM

I managed to snag 1 16gb and 1 32gb, with another 32gb one waiting for me to pick it up tomorrow.

I'm on hold with someone else right now, waiting to see how many they have available.

These are perfect for the kids and there's someone working on porting Android 3.0 to them as well.

candyflip 08-20-2011 04:53 PM

Got a second 16gb one from Datavis right before they sold out of em.

Really? When I am in Android Market I am noticing that a lot of apps are now optimized for both handheld and tablets. Many have a whole different look and feel if installed on a tablet.

Looks like developers are being proactive even though Android tablet sales are kind of blah now.

tony286 08-20-2011 08:36 PM

Everything seems to be sold out online and its too hot out to go looking store to store. I gave my wife my ipad , i really want a 7 in tablet. It will interesting to see what amazon comes out with.

candyflip 08-21-2011 04:22 AM

Best Buy has them available on their website right now. Both the 16gb for $99 and the 32gb for $149.

We're keeping 2 of them and giving the rest as Christmas presents.

drmadcat 08-21-2011 04:35 AM

Yeah...Amazon should have them listed back up in the next day or so.

The entire point of grabbing a discontinued/non-supported item is because it's dirt fucking cheap. I don't see why these fuckers are bidding them up. :1orglaugh

beerptrol 08-21-2011 05:29 AM

I was able to grab a couple off best bestbuy this am before they sold out. I noticed one just sold on ebay for 225.00 wtf are they thinking lol

Nice.

They've still got the 32gb ones available on their site. That's almost a better deal.

Sharky 08-21-2011 10:22 AM

You are wasting your $$ with that thing.

beerptrol 08-21-2011 11:01 AM

I have an android tablet and think those will make a good gift for someone not tech savy and who will use it just to surf the web and isn't into all those aps

I've gotten my $99 worth in 24 hours. I love my modded Nook and this is a much nicer piece of hardware...and will eventually run Android.

You can't beat it.
