Newest ICQ: 2003a

Dont load it.
Fucking crashes your system, freezes screens and tons of rumors of spyware.

I cant even get the shit to load and im hearing lots of other people having problems with it as well.

I just reformated my PC, lost so many icq messages.

This shit sucks.

Now i need to find out where I can get the 2000b version back.

jammyjenkins 01-29-2003 06:51 PM

Ive wondered why so many people were saying their icq was fucked and Ive been talking to em on the phone or emial.

I thought they were just avoiding icq becasue they didnt want to deal with customers or people writing em.. But now im seeing the truth.. ICQ really is fucked up.

I know about 8 people who have droped ICQ in the last 2 weeks.

I think im going to make it 9 today.

The Truth Hurts 01-29-2003 06:56 PM

I've been using it since it came out without any problems..

-=HOAX=- 01-29-2003 06:57 PM

I could upload a copy to a server for you...

SNOW 01-29-2003 06:57 PM

do you want the download or not?

NoCarrier 01-29-2003 06:57 PM

One question: Why would you want to upgrade ICQ?

candyflip 01-29-2003 06:58 PM

Get Trillian Pro...I don't ever have any issues with ICQ, and everyone else seems to be constantly complaining out the actual ICQ client.

Undutchable 01-29-2003 06:58 PM

The biggest problem atm with ICQ is that it occasionaly "looses" messages, often those with URLs in them. Its fucked up...

Bp, try 2002a, it's a good stable version with good functionality. Or just use trillian..

boneprone 01-29-2003 06:58 PM

maybe 2003 just doesnt work on Win Me, Win 2000 Pro??

These are the OS systems im attempting to put it on, and it fucking crashes, and freezes the whole pc.

Whats all this shit im hearing about major spyware on this version also??

AOL is fucking up bigtime.

pennd 01-29-2003 06:59 PM

maybe I'm missing out, but ICQ lite does what I need it to do. I don't use the schedule reminder or anything like that, just the simple stuff, keep my list and let me talk to people. Lost my old version of ICQ not to long ago, when a crack head broke into my car and stole my laptop. was wary of upgrading to the latest, so I just got the lite version and it's done what I need it to do.

DohMah 01-29-2003 06:59 PM

they have some trojan or something that will crash your ICQ down/

www.google.com search for HACK ICQ

DaLord 01-29-2003 07:00 PM

I installed it last weekend after 2002b screwed everything up.
2003a fucking blows... shitloads of useless features.

Huge banners...

asuna 01-29-2003 07:00 PM

i want 2001b back too or watever version it is

DX 01-29-2003 07:00 PM

i've got
98a
99a
2000b (2 different builds)
2001b

installers backed if anyone needs them..

Fletch XXX 01-29-2003 07:01 PM

i refuse to install it on any of my machines any longer.

i use http://go.icq.com the web based, and it works fine.

i dont care about history, and all that other shit.

i hate icq in the first place, but many use it so I keep up.

Yeah I was happy with 2000a, but it seems they pulled it EVERWHERE. icq.com doesnt have it anymore, nor does downloads.com

If i use trillian, does it have the same features as icq (selective user invisble modes, and can it make groups like 2002b did for my 329 users on my list?

Id use icq lite, but you cant make groups, so that wont work with such a huge icq list. Also the it lacks the selective invisible user mode.

and can i use my current icq number in it if i use trillian?

EXACTLY!!
Everyone is on it. Its not something you can really drop all together.

Up till 2003a I didnt mind icq, but yeah now i hate it too.

get icq lite...it's pretty good. I don't use the groups thing but for simple messages, it's perfect...

Lite is better than dropping it altogether....

NetRodent 01-29-2003 07:26 PM

Have you considered using Trillian? Its a combination icq/aol/msn/yahoo/irc client. It does lack a few features (like the ability to edit your icq profile) but its stable.

You can use groups in the latest ICQ Lite, I've got it on my laptop and it works fine. Other than that, I'd say Trillian is a good choice or else there must be an older ICQ version around...

:thumbsup
trillian

echo465 01-29-2003 07:54 PM

Hmmm.. I'm using 2003a on Windows 2000. The extra features and blinking lights and crap is annoying, but it can all be disabled in the preferences.

I used trillian before, and I thought it was annoying too, but without the ability to make it un-annoying.

Last time I tried installing an old version, ICQ servers didn't let me login into it.

I use Miranda ICQ and it's perfect. It's small (300kb) and fast, can import your contacts from ICQ, can group your users and has tons of plugins you can add in case you want a specified function. You should give it a try, it's much better than Trillian in my opinion and you don't have to uninstall ICQ to test it... if you don't like it, just delete it. :thumbsup

http://miranda-icq.sourceforge.net/

Anyone willing to give it a try can contact me for a good pack of plugins and icons in case you don't want to browse the site looking for the best ones. My ICQ number is 146348619.

I'm having no problems with the new ICQ 2003a or ICQlite. ICQ 2003a just uses a bunch of your system resources. The features are great if you use them only when you shut everything down like outlook express, etc. I use both, but mostly ICQlite just to stay online for messages. But anyway, This site has everything you guys need: old versions of everything! Check it out! http://www.oldversion.com/

RRRED 01-29-2003 08:27 PM

I just got ICQ Lite this week and I hate how the logs work. It's fucking stupid. I had 2001b or 2002b whatever it was, and it was perfect. All of a sudden it wouldn't let me add any more people. It would say my list was full. Anyone else experience this?

alias 01-29-2003 08:33 PM

ICQ sucks, just use email and if you need live chat maybe start an IRC channel for a conference or whatever

xBAD 01-29-2003 08:35 PM

I don't keep logs on ICQLite, I use ICQ2003a for that. and I've never filled up my contact list.

xBAD 01-29-2003 08:41 PM

How do you get your ICQ online status to show in these message posts?
