To me it sounds like they fell for a scam. It's a bit like those adverts around the net "make $534 per day on Google".
Falling for scams can be a fantastic part of one's education. At the same time though, I don't like to help the scammers, so I've made a mental note to avoid their products |
Human greed - it never ceases to grow. You give them a finger, soon they'll demand a hand.

What he said. FIRE EM ALL.

They "paid $3,000 to $6,000 to participate in a U.S.-certified cultural exchange program"

Note also it's NOT Hershey's they are talking about. The packing of already made candy bars for shipment is done by a sub-contractor. And I'll bet that subcontractor gets workers from an employment agency. But that doesn't make for as good a story.

If only these students had watched The Simpsons when they were growing up, in particular the episode where Bart goes on an exchange to France and ends up as a slave in a grape farm. I've started watching The Simpsons recently (after a 15 year break) and I've observed that they illustrate many an important lesson
