'Flash mob' robs Maryland 7-Eleven in less than a minute, police

(CNN) -- A "flash mob" believed to have been organized on the Internet robbed a Maryland convenience store in less than a minute, police said Tuesday, and now authorities are using the same tool to identify participants in the crime.

Surveillance video shows a couple of teens walking into a Germantown 7-Eleven store on Saturday at 1:47 a.m. Then, in a matter of seconds, dozens more young people entered and grabbed items from store shelves and coolers. Police said the teens left the store together, without paying for anything.

Violent "flash mob" attacks have also been reported recently in other cities across the country, leading to crackdowns on curfew enforcement and stepped-up police patrols.

Extra state troopers were ordered in after what was described as a "mob beating" took place at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Attacks in Cleveland, Chicago, and Washington have all led to the arrests of dozens of teens and resulted in extra police patrols in and around these cities.

If the same thing began in the larger cities of the US I do not believe the police would shy away from using quite a bit more force to put it down then what happened across the pond :2 cents:

Public anger towards the Bay Area Rapid Transport (BART) had been fermenting since July when transit police shot dead a man who was carrying a knife.

BART disconnected its transmitters in a bid to quell planned demonstrations.

Hacker group Anonymous retaliated by attacking myBART.org, and releasing users' personal information.

The hackers posted details of over 2,000 myBART users online.

An action group has called for the disbanding of the BART police force following the July 3 shooting of a homeless man Charles Hill and also the 2009 killing of another man, Oscar Grant.

BART's decision has parallels with recent troubles in England where days of riots were sparked when 29-year-old Mark Duggan was shot dead by police in Tottenham, north London.


Protesters have already been successful in rendering some stations on the network unusable by staging mass sit-ins.

BART took the decision, on 11 August, to shut off mobile phone reception at some of its sites.

In a statement, the transport company said: "BART temporarily interrupted service at select BART stations as one of many tactics to ensure the safety of everyone on the platform."

It said protesters had stated that they: "would use mobile devices to coordinate their disruptive activities and communicate about the location and number of BART Police".

BART added: "Disturbance during commute times at busy downtown San Francisco stations could lead to platform overcrowding and unsafe conditions for BART customers, employees and demonstrators."

You know, I often wondered what stopped large groups of people from targeting a single store, swarming it, and just walking out the door with stuff. My wife used to work in retail and they used to put things out for sale - clothes, shoes - right outside the door.

Now it looks like this is going to become a reality.

All it would take is for cops to monitor closely what's going on with certain people of note on Twitter etc, head to the location and mow down one of those flash mobs with swat rifles and this little flash mob problem would soon cease to exist.

How can you put Obama and Bush in the same sentence? Bush ran the country into the ground, during his watch 9/11 happened, he started 2 illegal wars that have been bankrupting the country for years, and left office as the greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression struck.
