Remember TGP2?

Great intention..wasn't it...lol

twistyneck 08-15-2011 09:56 PM

Those were the days. It could have worked too but no, this business has always been self-destructive and of course it's worse now than ever before. I used to edit out nipples, fuck that, my surfers had to fucking PAY for the good stuff. Now they just go to tube sites.

LiveDose 08-15-2011 10:34 PM

I remember playing around with it. Great concept that's about it...

leg4 08-15-2011 10:40 PM

Wasn't it like 12 thumbs per page? no videos and no hardcore on the pics?

LOL--- funny to think that porn would have followed that marketing progression.

It was a good idea if it had come up before TGPs exploded.

It was a totally stupid idea after thehun was blowing up.

That was like competing with youporn by having a blog with a few hosted
flv players.

:1orglaugh

The timing made a great idea just dumb.

AdultKing 08-15-2011 11:07 PM

Would have been good anywhere other than the free market.

Market forces always dictate things in the end, not cartels which is basically what TGP2 was.

rock-reed 08-15-2011 11:53 PM

>>>>> Market forces always dictate things in the end, not cartels which is basically what TGP2 was.

JFK 08-15-2011 11:54 PM

yes, we were doing it :winkwink:

Paul Markham 08-16-2011 12:19 AM

The easiest method of online marketing is to give away the maximum possible for free, build the traffic and end up with the minimum converting.

At this form of online marketing we're kings.

Of course so many offline porn companies weren't clever enough to figure this out. </sarcasm>

Doctor Dre 08-16-2011 12:20 AM

That was the last time the industry got together to try a change.
Failed miserably.

harvey 08-16-2011 12:30 AM

As one of the creators of the concept and the original webmaster for TGP2.net, the original TGP2 resource site, I feel obliged to say a couple things on the subject.

First of all, yes, the concept failed miserably. There were many reasons, but I think the main one was greed and the continuous backstabbing. At some point, those of us who were more committed simply let it go, once thing was fighting against the "market forces", another fighting against the "market forces" AND the so called committed TGP2ers, specially a few of the leaders.

On top of that, several programs promised to support this movement in different ways, some of them even made press releases. I'm still waiting for their so called "support" to a movement that... tried to help them (go figure). Of course, all of them are gone, but who's counting?

Finally, about the "cartel" thing. Yes, OK, it was some kind of cartel or whatever you want to call it. But those of us who were in this business for loooooong years and knew how the story was, it was a logical procedure: every single step, innovation or groundbreaking idea was "leveraged" by law or the industry as a whole or, like you call them, the "cartels". Let me give you some examples:

- before The Hun got mega rich and became a class act, The Hun was like any kind of pirate or password trading site. It grew that big because he was the worst offending site between a small handful. The existing paysites joined forces to make him (and a few more) stop and the rest is history. LEVERAGE
- before Worldsex was so big, they grew by IMG SRCing everybody (there weren't trading scripts and most sites weren't aware of that trick). Mads was discovered and simply said "sorry, do you wanna trade with me? Now my site gets 500,000 real visitors". Later he sold the site (another history) but he was stopped. LEVERAGE.
- when the CJ sites shown up, things got so retarded the whole industry had to put a stop to it because visitors were afraid to click on any ad. I remember there was a CJ2 movement made to the image of TGP2 to correct those errors. LEVERAGE.
- when everybody got greedy and started with the Dialer fever, autoinstalls, trojan bars, trojan counters and any single shady thing in the book, a big amount of people stopped those sites by avoiding trading and blacklisting their asses. LEVERAGE.

So yes, we tried to do something, we tried to leverage things and correct what we knew would be happen later (as in.. TUBES!). We were betrayed, people laughed and attacked us more than what they helped (if any help), cheaters were the norm, most people was like "oooh, look at those idiots trying to correct this business". No surprise most of them are out of business as well, surprise. But again, yes, we tried, and we missed. Obviously, people that never tries will never miss. The difference is that if we had won the battle, the whole story would be different today and everybody would have benefited. The idiots that laughed and got a couple sales back then are... where? looking for job? I don't see most of them anymore and the last news I had they were crying about those "mean guys in the industry who are giving everything for free" :Oh crap

Anyway, sorry about the rant. At least we have proven we were right. Little consolation, but maybe people will learn that an united industry under certain rules and regulations could only be beneficial for 99% of people. May our defeat serve as a lesson :thumbsup

Nicky 08-16-2011 05:18 AM

I made some money from It but that was mostly cause of building SEO clusters of linked tgp2 galleries. So It was google that made me the $$ not the TGP2 sites as they sent just about 0 traffic.

Emil 08-16-2011 05:23 AM

Hehe yeah. Too bad it never really took off.

Only 5 photos.

cherrylula 08-16-2011 06:48 AM

I don't get this. It's just a way to build some pages.... some of us STILL build pages like that. It didn't take off? Um ok. lol

MrCain 08-16-2011 06:55 AM

I still get the odd signup from old TGP2 galleries.

geirlur 08-16-2011 08:33 AM

I always cut out 10 pics from my regular gallery and submitted it to the tgp2 gallery pool.
Took me around 1 minute to do all of that and it gave me a decent amount of sales every year so it was definately worth it.
I also remember Wolfshade posted some incredible tgp2 stats, anyone know if those were real? :)

Babaganoosh 08-16-2011 08:41 AM

It would have been great if everyone adopted the idea. At the time it would have been hard to compete against sites who listed galleries with 16 (gasp) thumbs linked to full sized images.

Good post. :2 cents:

Don't apologize, bro...cause you really hit the nail on the head here. I think the main problem is sometimes things that work on paper don't work in reality, cause that's mainly cause people suck.

And yea, the majority of those people who laughed and got a couple of sales aren't around anymore. Maybe the problem is this biz isn't run like a cartel -- the mob -- however you wanna label it. You know...where those kinda people are whacked. :upsidedow

I'm not being serious about whacking...but you know what I mean.

Excellent post. The sad thing is people still haven't learned and probably never will.

FreeHugeMovies 08-16-2011 09:07 AM

We need to move forward with Tube2.0 30 second clips!

WebCashMaker 08-16-2011 09:12 AM

I remember making and submitting TGP2 galleries.

I definitely remember making sales from them, but back then it was so easy to make a sale.

Viper2K1 08-16-2011 09:27 AM

I went through everthing, from CJ with chained popups (that was fun, sites that were 99% made with javascript :)), to CJ with just 1 popup, then CJ without popup ... eventually also a couple TGP2's, but was too hard to find galleries for it, or even trades with a fair number of traffic ...

Things changed too quick at that time for TGP2 to succeed.

eye8urcake 09-02-2011 02:13 PM

I loved TGP2. I loved having smaller pictures in html pages that were great for SE, among other things, as I had a certain way I built those galleries. I stuck to it even though it caused me some trade and submission issues, because as a concept, I really believed in it.

Still do believe in the reining in of the amount and explicitness of my freebies, especially looking at this tube crap. Just don't really know how to balance that with the desire to make a little money.

Good post about a good idea.

Indeed he did. I assume they were real but he knew how to sell and he also had an "in" with all the tgp2's so he got the top spots + he built them for SE traffic :)

My Pimp 09-02-2011 03:53 PM

They had only a few thousands visitors a day. They had nevere a chance. Thehun and youporn offered everything for free.
