Content Question
For you content companies, how much will you pay for original content for you to re-sell?
|
i don't re-sell other people's content - but most who do - usually charge 50% of the gross, however some also charge the credit card processing fees on top.
|
So if we produced our own content. No content company would buy it off of us? Would be better off selling ourselves? Thats the hassle we don't want.
|
50% is insane, for fucking what? the photographer recruits the models, pays the models, does the shoot, cleanup/edit in Photoshop - the broker does...................hmmmmmm..........oh right they have a website with a shopping cart. That's a very fair trade off.
|
Do you mean you shoot the stuff and sell it outright (copyright, and all other rights) and be done with it?
If that is the case I ussually can get em around 2.00 a pic (non flip book photography). Price also varies. If its girl guy its often a lil more, if its solo crack whores its a lot less. |
the hassle is worth it if your content is any good. 40-50% is ALOT to give up to a broker. Also remember this about a broker, it's like a grocery store, your stuff is going to be on a shelf with tons of other content, some in your own niche.
I know guys who have content with the biggest brokers, the checks they get every month are miniscule..................which leads me to two possible conclusions, the broker isn't doing that much business OR he's shaving sales. do it yourself or use a broker who takes 25% off the gross sale. |
We do on occation buy exclusive or Resell rights for other photographers content.....
"no brokering though" And Mutt: What a pile of bullshit bro, there is allot of work in running a content store not to mention the staff that needs pay as well.... The brokers that charge more usualy sell much more..... And do you think advertisement comes for free? |
bullshit..................and i'll prove it ain't hard. 50% is ridiculous.
|
Have a chat with Paul if you think its "no work at all" as you seem to be shouting....
Paul got totaly pulled away from shooting in the beginning from the work the store generated :( But hey, if you have a solution for the thousands of poor sobs out there peddling content more power to ya :thumbsup As i see it there is arround 4-5 brokers worth mentioning out there and they all charge 40+ "wonder why"... |
Sounds like we'll just sell it ourselves..... Thanks for all the input guys....
By the way, its original, hand drawn anime content |
they charge 40% plus because the vast majority of guys who shoot content are not cut out to be businessmen, they like to shoot content, that is their skill. How many times have you seen somebody come to this board ask where he can sell his content because he doesn't want the hassles?
So they come on the Net and they don't know how to set up a shop and advertise etc, they see everybody taking 50% and they live with it. I'm not saying there is no work involved in being a broker, i just think that 50% is outta line. In what other field does a broker take 50%? Maybe in some fields of work they do but I know in publishing an agent doesn't get 50%, nowhere near that. WebLegal takes 30%, that's fair I think. Now if some broker can double the total sales of WebLegal then 50% looks ok, but there are no brokers who can do that I don't think. Big brokers carry too much product. I'd much rather find a store like Paul's where I would only be sharing shelf space with him and a few others than 50 or 100 others. |
