SEO tips please - newbie level

Never really done too much seo wise with my sites... But in these hard times, need to try anything and everything :)

So someone told me the longer you register the domain for, the better the seo's score them ? If so is there a minimum amount of time this should be done for ???

It also mentions analysing things like google analytics and then writing pages based on the results... What sort of pages are this ??? Like blind pages of text and content ?

And do sites use meta tags anymore ??? Someone said only meta description ?

Any other tip bits ?

BittieBucks 08-12-2011 05:39 PM

Backlinks

Also back links ??? You can buy these right ???

papill0n 08-12-2011 05:44 PM

you want unique regularly updated content and as many relevant backlinks as possible

Frosty 08-12-2011 05:48 PM

It's all about the common sense. Thing that I'm trying to say is, use meta tags like a normal person would use them, don't put in them something that's not on your website. Don't use keywords that have nothing to do with your website, and more importantly make your website user and search engine friendly.

If it loads fast, contains your content, and if the content is easily readable, your site is "optimized".

Think about the site itself, and then about the backlinks. :)

Thanks

Thanks guys... Keep the info coming please :)

So I can buy back links right ??? Any suggestions where ???

seo is kind of dead as it once was, at least when Google is concerned

cutedimples 08-12-2011 06:55 PM

1. Meta tags are VERY important, both meta titles AND descriptions. But keyword tags not as much.

2. Link Building with your targeted keywords as anchor text. You can find link builders on sites that provide SEO services.

p.s. When you do that, focus on quality but not quantity. That is, to rank well on one keyword is better than ranking 60th place on 10 keywords.

3. Use H1 tag, because it places weight on ranking as well. But only 1 per page.

4. Google likes domains with years to go and ranks them better. But I'm not sure how long is good.

5. Use ALT tags for images.

6. Use a lot of keywords on your content. But stay at around 3% on a given page. Dont over do it.

7. Internal Linking.

8. Google loves BLOGs!

:2 cents:

Straws. Grasp at them. Eventually you may succeed. Or not.

Give it time, keep working 24/7 - 6 months straight, it will pay off.

Work hard and smart amigo!

If he works 24/7 for six months straight he'll be dead. That's not very smart.

Is this important? I just added meta tags, after never having used it before... Hopefully this will help my rankings...

start a tube. build and buy a shitload of links. also buy shit like google +1s, tweets from high follower twitter accounts to build your social rank.

The best SEO tool for beginners is Market Samurai. The training videos alone are worth watching even if you don't use the tool.

Don't underestimate the role of on page SEO to your efforts. Use a rank tracker to track your competition for keywords you are targeting, see what they are doing that you are not. Sometimes the smallest change can move you from page x to top 5 in Google.

Use keyword research to target keywords / long tail keywords you have a great chance of ranking, then once you rank well for those, move slowly toward more and more competitive keywords. Once the search engines understand the relevance of your site to certain keywords your rankings for other relevant keywords will improve.

There is alot you can do, alot you should do, but the best investment you can make to understand more about your sites and their performance is to get Market Samurai and complete the free training modules.

Just keyword stuffing without any consideration to the humans that will land on the content is counter productive to SEO.

V_RocKs 08-12-2011 10:09 PM

Read the Google patent.

anyone recommend mainstream backlink finding services? I need backlines for a craft site - i can backlink adult sites all day but my wifes site im having a hard time finding ppl to tradelinks with ... contacting blog owners is worthless as most of them are dumb as shit and think im trying to "hack" them lol

AdultKing 08-13-2011 07:47 AM

have you tried using Link Assistant for mainstream backlinks ?

BittieBucks 08-13-2011 08:14 AM

A Big Thanks...

Thanks so much for so many informative replies, hopefully this will benefit other people not just me :)

It seems I got a lot of reading to do, but if it helps tha cause then it's time well spent :thumbsup I will definitely follow up on the posts and also hit you up Media Guy...

Can I just ask two (probably dumb) questions...

1. Back links - am I right in thinking these are other sites that link to your site ? Well I did tell you all I was a newbie to this whole seo thing.

2. Targeted content - someone mentioned using google analyticals to identify what's working for your site and then creating custom content/pages to help with seo... Are these like blind pages that may not be seen by the surfer but seen by the search engines ???

Anymore input welcome :winkwink:

backlinks are websites that link to your site. If they are using a word in the link, that word is called an anchor tag (link).

Use the keywords that your site was designed for when you update everytime. If you use the same keywords as the ones used in the backlinks anchor tags, then it should help your search engine rank for those keywords.

google "seo basics" "seo training course" shit like that. find stuff written this year.

this looks ok. http://knol.google.com/k/seo-basics#

read as much as you can. then just experiment and work at it. that's the only way you can know for sure whether the information is bunk or not. because even experts will give you crap info.

2MuchMark 08-13-2011 08:28 AM

Google LIKES a site that has good content and that is generally good for the Internet.

If someone searches Google for something, and Google can direct those people to your site, and your site is ABOUT those search terms, Google is happy. Google is even happier when your bounce rate is lower. A lower bounce rate means the customer found what he or she is looking for.

The more you help google, the more google helps you.

Google does not index web SITES. Google indexes web PAGES.

With this in mind, Make your Title, Keyword and Description tags ABOUT each web page of your site. Don't use wrong keywords.

Backlinks can help, but only if they are relevant.

Don't use additional domains made to redirect traffic to your main domains.

Don't mess with Google. Don't waste your money on any automated software. Do use the H1 and H2 Tags, ALT and other tags.

Make sure you register your domain for at least 2 years, and make sure your site loads quickly by ptimize the images for file size.

Good luck!

Agent 488 08-13-2011 08:33 AM

once you know the basics google gives you all the info you need to see how to rank.

say you wanted to rank http://boobiepass.com/t1/ for "big boobs" (also make sure to do your keyword research - using google's keyword tool for example - to see that people are actually searching for that term) - google it and rip apart the sites on the first page - check how their title tags are set up, keyword text etc. use backlink analyzers to see how many backlinks they have, from where, what kind of anchor text and so on.

so 1) read up on seo.

2) back engineer your competition.

3) test and experiment.

4) have patience. it takes awhile to see results.

Thanks all

ok... i had a site go to PR2 in only 3 months...

the trick

ALL meta data

H1 H2 H3 tags

ALL original text

Article marketing

only 30 pages of content

did not buy any stupid links (would consider buying traffic though because as ironic as it seems, the more direct traffic you have the more search traffic you get)

stinkyfingers 08-13-2011 09:32 AM

good luck
