Rough week: $2.5 trillion wiped off world stocks

LONDON ? More than $2.5 trillion have been wiped off the value of world stocks this week on mounting concerns the global economy is heading toward another recession and Italy and Spain are being engulfed by the euro zone sovereign debt crisis.

The sum wiped off the MSCI All-Country World Index is almost equivalent to the size of the entire French economy.

The MSCI All-Country World Index is down 8.6 percent this week, on track for its biggest weekly percentage fall since November 2008.

The U.S. S&P 500 index alone has lost more than $840 billion from its market capitalization this week , while European equities measured by the MSCI Europe have lost more than $817 billion.

"These are markets to be careful (in), not to try and be a hero," Royal Bank of Scotland Chief Executive Stephen Hestor told reporters after the bank announced its first-half results.

Fact is we did not cut enough. Fact is that the neocons and democrats did not want to cut enough. The compromise should have been with greater cuts and an BBA but the democrats blocked that. Then Reid tabled the bill that passed congress and then filibustered his own bill until the 12th hour. Blaming less than 12% of the congress for this is pretty funny.

If you truly think the tea party, a bunch of freshman that make up less than 12% of congress, is to blame for this then you would also have to admit the HUGE failure of the president and Senate Majority leader for not coming up with a plan.

Seriously, you are going to blame freshman congresspeople that are less than 12% of the congress without placing the blame on failed leadership in the White House? :1orglaugh

Well he was in charge when this all started. What gets me is that people expect one guy to fix something in 30 months that took someone else 8 years to fuck up. Mihgt be able to get done if one had COOPERATION from the House.

you know, when the real estate bubble was in full swing, a handful of people named ron paul stood forth & said this was wrong. nobody listened, & wall street burned.

the deficit is another bubble. every dime spent with borrowed money is artificial growth. Fake growth. Growth unsustainable without more spending. this is why governments cannot spend the economy into prosperity.

tea party fights to save america from trust fund child liberals who spend away the countries wealth.
