I have it hooked up to a 32" Sony Bravia HDTV at 720p/1080i

Using my laptop to control it via Synergy Software for Windows7 x64

You would be surprised at how fast and impressive this machine works at the price I paid.

Care to take a guess? not that much really.

Most computers, even ones with a cheap AMD processor, will seem really fast the minute you put it together. It's only when you actually go to do shit like

-play high res video games
-encode/decode movie files
-photoshop/30-40 browser tabs open/dreamweaverftp/etc open/mass picture editing/websites that consume a lot of memory

and whatnot, at the same time, that you'll notice your budget computer can only give you what you paid for. :thumbsup

Why would anyone want a Mac? Pay a expensive price for the hardware of yesterday. On top of that you wont be able to run a lot of popular software because it's only made for Windows.

I can buy a Amiga500 and pay $4000, does that made it a better computer than if I bought it for $50? You would probably say "Yes.".

I am not boasting about anything... except getting a killer deal on a pretty decent box. Now.. the price total was $413 including next day air which ran me like $43. It was priced at $299 with $70 in rebates.

Considering that I am a "webmaster" and have been for many years now, my main computer has been an old dell with a 3.4 Ghz pentium 4 HT northwoods core socket468!!! 1.5GB DDR RAM, obviously NOT in dual channel mode. An 80 GB IDE HDD for OS I have a 320GB external for my files. Nvidia Geforce 6200 OC graphics 512mb couldn't use it for movies or games cause there were never any drivers that worked with that card. However web stuff worked well. I ended up switching to an old AGP Geforce 5200FX.

Anyway. That is my main computer, and it will continue to be that. Though I just got a great deal on an old core2duo laptop that I will work on now as well.

The one I just built will be my media center connected to my HDTV and so far it kicks ass. I will be using the 1.5TB HDD to sort my music, movies, pictures and such. Everything is networked and accessible from anywhere in the house.

Fuck all... my main computer for my first 4 years in this biz was an old compaq with a 466Mhz PIII and 256mb sdram... 40GB HDD... then an emachines with a 2.9Ghz celeron D.

NEVER had a problem doing my job.

Oh and since I use my laptop keyboard and trackpad to control the New computer from my couch, I can work on my Laptop and just drag the mouse to the TV and play files and do other shit with EASE!

Most aren't fucking programmers they're salesman, but "webmaster" sounds cooler than "porn pitchman". But call yourself what you are. If you get paid to program/maintain/designed websites then you are a "webmaster". If you make money selling porn, you're not.

Exactly, I didn't even buy it for work. The thought never even crossed my mind, as I have been waiting for a laptop to work on so I am not sitting at the desk all day.

I finally got one. Only like 1.86 duo core intel with 2GB DDR2 RAM and 120GB HDD, but it was FREE! Yup... traded a puppy for it, was only asking $50 for the puppy.

The lady said the charger was fried due to a power surge, so she bought a replacement and that one died shortly after. I thought OK... I will maybe need to order a new battery and probably a new charger, bout $100 oh well.

Got it home and played with it, both chargers seemed fine, the battery was completely dead. The screen was really bright and the pixels were all fucked up. I thought I would use it to read the boards or check stats etc. I reformatted the HD and put a fresh OS on it, the battery was HOT as HELL so I put it in the freezer and took a shower.

When I got out of the shower I took the battery and blew into the connection terminals reset it in the back of the laptop, turned it on and been using it ever since. It is a few years old but still holds a charge for a couple hours. I leave it plugged in most of the time anyway.

The screen was pissing me off though. Then I saw a place for a screwdriver under a panel, so I took my fingernail and popped the panel off. The screen connection was under there and the bluetooth module, so I shut it down. I pulled the plug to the screen pulled some hair off it, blew into the terminals and plugged it back in... tightly.

Beautiful 17" HD picture quality and works like a charm... FREE LAPTOP!

Oh...

I now have 3 desktops, and the laptop, my GF has her laptop and I bought my son a desktop. So there are plenty of machines I can use for work.
