That is so great! I love seeing these new innovations. I've had the rapid test a few times which uses just a drop of blood from the finger and it was already such a huge step from traditional lab methods. The more these tests become accessible, the more people will get tested!

MaDalton 08-05-2011 08:12 AM

i would say its a good thing - would be handy for shootings as well

If you like innovations in this field, keep an eye out for the "Lactobacillus jensenii"

It's a bacteria found in the woman's vagina and scientists have been able to modify it so it creates a protein which is deadly for the HIV-virus.

They have made it into a gel and have tested it on rhesus monkeys by putting the gel in their vaginas. Then injected their vaginas's with HIV.

The infection rate decreased by 63%.

Thats my thoughts 100%

Normally, on my shoots I dont personally require certs, cause my stuff is 100% solo softcore...

However, after my time in the industry, and my EX wife (602 movies to her name) I know that the certs are important..

It would be GREAT to have a cheap, hand held device, that you could use before the shoot...

I think its an amazing invention :2 cents:

This is the kind of thing that makes 100% sense for our business.

And I'm sure with that the FSC's newest idea to suddenly become the testing source for the industry (weren't they gonna be the anti-piracy software kings a few months ago?) isn't gonna work out for them after all.

Of course I'm sure that they will argue this. But I don't see how anybody could argue having both performers take this test in front of a producer and 15 minutes later you have your results right in front of you.

MUCH better than somebody showing up with a 28 day old test.

Agreed.

But, there's still the problem of the detection threshold. Let's say somebody got infected 4 days ago, will it show up?

marketsmart 08-05-2011 10:22 AM

i hope they come out for one for herpes..

then i can know each time i give it to a girl..

right now i have to rely on an angry phone call from the girl i gave it to...

Probably not. But neither would it have shown up if a person were AIM tested (before they went out of business) and showed up on set with a 3 week old test that said they were clean.

The only way the old methods would show a person infected 4 days ago would have been if they were tested at just the right time as well.

I don't see any problem with this. I'd much rather do the test on the talent myself and see it with my own two eyes right there on the spot. Hell...I may take a pocketful of tests with me when I go out hitting nightclubs on a Friday night.
Wouldn't that make a great conversation piece? "Hey baby, check it out...I'm negative! Wanna fuck?"

Well, that's exactly my worry. These thing would be awesome if they would test for multiple diseases. People are stupid enough to go like: "See? I don't have HIV" and then fuck like rabbits...but there's more out there than HIV.

But I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

I like this development.

there are already portable hiv tests out for around $15 but they are not 'fda approved'. the only one that is is oraquick which the health department uses and they're around 50 bucks each in bulk. just a simple blood drop reactive test

HarleySpencer 08-07-2011 03:32 PM

That's really great, I hope it's successful. My question is, do you actually take it with you yourself to use it or do the doctors use it for you? I would be scared to use it on my own :Oh crap

That's incredible. I know I sound all wide-eyed and optimistic, but it's crazy to think how much progress has been made since the discovery of the disease, and it makes me quite hopeful that we'll find better and better methods for treating and preventing HIV/AIDS soon. Until then, I know I'll keep trying to raise money and awareness.
