TSA embraces common sense? testing Israeli-style screening program + more
 

There's so much common sense coming out of the Transportation Security Administration these days you might hardly recognize the mammoth federal agency the next time you fly.

New this week at Orlando International Airport: children under 12 are no longer required to remove their shoes when they go through the security checkpoint. Other changes in protocol in Orlando are intended to result in fewer of those controversial pat-downs for kids.

At other airports such as Miami International, TSA is rolling out an invitation-only program for elite frequent fliers that may one day let them also keep their shoes on and leave laptops in bags.

And at Logan International Airport in Boston, the agency is trying a new program loosely modeled after the Israelis in which security officers engage passengers in conversation to try to detect terrorists.

Finally, a rational approach to protecting flights appears to be taking hold?

yah like your average screener is going to tell if you are a shoe bomber by judging your responses to certain questions. can't see how this would go wrong.

unfortunately, the opposite is to not try to fix it. i am not rly a fan of that, at least with trying to fix it there is a chance.

This is great news, our system is stupid beyond belief. The Israeli system actually works, consider how many threats they get and how few incidents and you'll see they have the better system.

it will be all wonderful until another shoe or underwear bomber wanders past the chatty security and blows up a plane. Then we will be back to higher security, and the whiners who can't handle a pat down will just stay the fuck home and shut up.

the solution is to make enough money to fly private and then you bypass all this bullshit.. :thumbsup

TSA will try method, then there will be a false flag terrorist attack, then tsa will say "SEE! we were right all along. We tried your way and it didn't work, now we need even more security!"

ftr, i've always thunk that the tsa is simply a bureaucracy out of control and if you look at how fast it has grown, it is easy to see why. i've never thought it to be an orchestrated effort to foster & grow a police state/remove freedoms.

a bureaucracy can change, the tsa appears to be trying to do that. i have no idea if it will fix it's own problems or not.

When is the last time a bomb went off in an Israeli airport? Or a plane hijacked from there? And they don't do any of the stupid crap TSA does. Way more efficient and effective system

The Canadian system is pretty good too, no one attacks Canada.

What about the system they have in Zimbabwe? Italy?

Maybe Americans should stop trying to keep angry people out of their airports and instead do what the rest of the world does, not make people angry in the first place.

Israel doesn't have airplane terrorism because all airplane terrorism is caused by Israel. Israelis see you Americans as dirty scummish dogs, they don't mind killing you and your families to them its like killing a bunch of dirty disgusting flies. Israelis see themselves as better than Americans and on a whole other level.

How many TSA employees will quit now ...

One thing to remember though is that a single American airport can have more traffic then the entire country of Israel. So they do have some techniques we can learn from, but it's apple and oranges to some degree. For example, just the city of New York has nearly 3 times the population of Israel.

i've noticed many americans being more than nice to you here, myself included. that's even after you ripped my head off about something. so i would have to conclude that you are not really open to having americans being nice to you anyway. i won't get into the silliness that all airplane terrorism is caused by israel and all israelis view all americans that way.

in the meantime, this is a step in the right direction for domestic security.

Hard working Americans that stand up for what is right are A okay with me. I look up to the idea that Americans want to be free, they want equality for all people. That is a great idea. And to all Americans that live that way - you guys rock.

As to the ones that are intolerant of a certain group of people because of their race - fuck you. The ones that think it is a good idea to go around the world and murder innocent people just because of their race or what religion they practice - fuck you.

Americans love to hate. And as long as Americans are going through this phase of 'give us someone to hate' then I will keep showing them why they are wrong.

Do I have anything against an American just because he or she is American? Of course not. But as a collective you guys are slipping, and not realizing that just means your eyes are closed to the truth. You have no work ethic, you love to hate, you have no sense of community. You lie to your soldiers and your government lies even worse to you. I'm sorry that I have to point out the truth, but as ugly as it is, it is the truth. You can choose to ignore it like most Americans or you can push for change.

I'm really the nicest person you'll ever meet but I'm not about to close my eyes and pretend things that are right in front of me aren't true. I'm not stupid, and I know most of you aren't either.

Finally some sense

i don't disagree, i do find it is important to differentiate between a country's people and its government. iran is an example in my mind. unfortunately, i notice many who can't separate the two.

also, america is to the world what california is to america, we are just leading they way into the abyss. the global economy is a ponzi scheme built on the confidence of the american dollar. america did not invent war either. war is an anomaly in human history. what a ridiculous way to decide something. nevertheless, these are all genies we cannot put back in their bottles.
