Cloud Hosting and Cost
 

Has anyone moved from dedicated hosting over to a cloud environment e.g. Amazon EC2 and RDS?

Theoretically it seems like a good way to deal with spikes but it seems like there is a hefty premium when compared to my self-managed dedicated servers.

I think you hit it on the head. If you are superbowl.com cloud makes sense. You need alot of server for just a few hours. In some other cases it makes sense. For most porn sites, Amazon would be a very poor fit to your needs.
