Taxes don't pay for the post office. What do they have to do with it?

The post office is a failing business. Changes are coming.

I heard they want to avoid going 5 days a week because the layoffs from the Post Office would be devastating to the economy. They would get rid of so much of their work force.

They're also going to announce shortly that they're closing 3600+ post offices as well.

Honestly? How can people not know that the Post Office - until recently - generated income for the US government?

Okay, here's a test. Name a government agency that has always provided income to the US government. (Other than the Post Office.)

5 days? Why not 3 days? Who needs mail delivered more than every other day? This is the kind of excess that got us into the problem in the first place. 6 days a week so everyone can get their once a month bills? Stupid!

They were talking about 3 day service not to long ago...

"WASHINGTON -- Could mail delivery be cut back to three days-a-week?

That's not under consideration right now, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said Wednesday. But it's something that could happen in 15 to 20 years if mail volume continues to decline.

What the Postal Service needs right now are changes in the law allowing it to reduce delivery to five days-a-week and to resolve an annual requirement for it to pay $5.5 billion into a fund for future retiree medical costs, Donahoe said in a telephone interview."

Even Obama threw them under the bus:
"UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It's the Post Office that's always having problems."

                          Oh wait, what?
