Privatecash - using my email in URLs is not ok

I just received an email from [email protected] with title "Private Mobile Galleries", the email contains gallery urls containing my email in the url, example:

Code:

http://enter.private.com/gallery/myemail_gmail_com.1.1.11.0.1111.0.0.0
I will not use links containing my email, please tell your programers to change the "GET" parameter in your linking codes to use affiliate id or nickname instead of affiliate's email. I don't think any affiliate would want that ...I don't want when someone types my email in Google to get porn gallery results ...that's not cool. I'll get more spam too.

Thanks in advance.

wow, just noticed that, I got it too. I've seen big fails throughout the years, but this one really deserves a prize, so evident and neither the coder, the program admin(s), the affiliate managers, I mean,, NOBODY didn't even notice it. Or even worse, they think it's OK :Oh crap

Denny 07-22-2011 02:20 AM

Hmm... that's not good

Roald 07-22-2011 02:25 AM

weird, its been like that for over a year for us?!

I agree that it can be an issue though.

AmeliaG 07-22-2011 02:29 AM

I've suggested to them that encoded links -- not including name, email, etc. in the freaking link -- would be better. But they just keep sending them out like that. Who would want to use them that way?

I wouldn't use links containing my email as well, it's pretty stupid... :pimp

It's been that set-up for me for a while now. Never considered it a major problem because everything gets ripped to my own galleries anyway.

that's silly.

Hi guys,
This is happening to affiliates that have assigned their email address as their Private Cash username.
NATS generates the links by two ways:
1) by adding the username next to the fhg adtool parameter (un-encoded version)
2) by adding an encoded version next to the fhg adtool parameter (encoded version)

Please look at this example:
http://enter.private.com/gallery/MTY...4yOTYzLjAuMC4w
http://enter.private.com/gallery/yor...6.0.2963.0.0.0
Both links are the same.

We were sending our weekly galleries newsletter this way during the last year and actually we didn't receive any negative feedback from affiliates (search engines issues, spam increase, etc). Most of our affiliates are using a nickname as a username, maybe that's the reason.

Of course now we are going to take care of this issue. I'll try to configure nats accordingly so that the galleries don't display the username.
We apologize for this inconvenience. I'll update this thread asap.

I can provide fhg dumps (containing encoded links) to all affiliates that want to.
Just let me know by sending me an email.

Thanks for your feedback

1. That is indeed pretty bad.
2. Good to see Private's on it.

It's ironic that Private is having an issue with privacy. I wouldn't be surprised if this conflicts with some strict European privacy laws.

just make sure you don't use your SS number as your user ID ok?

CurrentlySober 07-22-2011 05:07 AM

using email addys for urls is a bit gay.

Just use full home adresses instead.
