Samsung Galaxy S2 (Battery)

I recently bought a samsung galaxy s2 smartphone, I noticed that the battery has been draining really fast lately, I have an app that shows my battery life in percentage and how hot my phone is.

After about 10 mins of playing a game like angry birds my phone temp can get as hot as 39oc and the batter life would go down about 5%.

I have a couple of days left to be eligible for a refund or exchange. I don't really want a refund so is it worth exchanging or will I just get another phone with the same problems?

i dont notice temperature that much (holding it also increases temperature), but of course playing games draines the battery. i noticed that the battery can be empty after a couple of hours of heavy usage or last a week if you hardly use it and have things like wifi and gps turned off. it really depends on how you use it.

but a simple Nokia surely last longer ;)

I've read a lot of things online about the phone getting really hot and battery draining pretty fast but when I'm reading things like this I always come across someone that says "What are you guys talking about my galaxy s2 never gets hot and the battery lasts forever." We all have the same phone so I don't don't quite understand when I hear that. We can't ALL have FAULTY phones.

I have everything that I'm not using at the time turned off, like the gps, wifi, 3g. I'm not on contract so I spent quite a lot of money on my galaxy s2, I was looking for the best and fastest phone on the market and everything I read was saying get the galaxy s2 lol.

I guess having a duel core drains the battery quite quickly, looking at the price of the galaxy s2 makes you think its a perfect phone with no faults...

I'm not sure when I read posts on these mobile forums, so many iphone (apple) fanboys out there trying to bash adroid. Thats why I wanted to ask your opinions on here.

MaDalton, you already suggested a good app for me "Kies Air" not sure if you remember lol. Are there any apps you use to help battery life? I use my phone for everything, I wish I could buy some sort of super battery for it... :)

Does anyone have the skin with the built in battery? I have been thinking of getting that because I drain battery life pretty quickly and it looks like something that would help.

4G uses tons of energy, that's why Apple doesn't like it for it's iPhone..
So check if 4G is on/off ;)

fobert 07-21-2011 07:59 PM

check to see what's sync'ing and how often; that could be a big part of your battery drain.

of course i remember, i'm still too young for Alzheimers... :winkwink:

no, i dont use any extra tools for battery life, 3g is on, wifi mostly too. but i have to admit that after being really excited about it the first days i am now back to normal - and i always rarely use my phones. today is friday and i charged it the last time on monday i think - but i also switch it off while i sleep.

but yes, when i use it heavily the battery goes fast. i noticed when i used it as navigation system in the car, but i have a charger there if i need it.

and maybe i am less sensitive, but i really cant say it's getting hot - warm yes, but not hot.

Angry Birds is a MASSIVE battery killer. My kids can rip through a full battery in about an hour of heavy play.

Check out an app called Ultimate Juice if you really want to get lots of time out of your battery.

biskoppen 07-22-2011 05:45 AM

Use a black background.. each pixel with a light in it uses power..

djroof 07-22-2011 05:48 AM

Not change the phone... also when u bought it u did 2-3 FULL "reload" on your battery? Put in plug when your phone close down and battery be empty if u charge it when it has power is bad for battery life...

pornguy 07-22-2011 05:53 AM

Just keep it and get a second battery. also Step away from Angry birds.

Lower your screen brightness. Helps a little

munki 07-22-2011 09:06 AM

Switch out your OS to Cyanogenmod... You should notice battery improvement...

I got that app but it didn't really do much for the battery so I uninstalled it.

To be honest, all these new "smartfones", they mostly end up lacking in the 2 most important things.

Signal.

Battery life.

I always laugh when someone goes to show me something on their new fone, only to say "oh wait, can't get a signal just now". Even when you are outside and there should be NO problems. I've been standing with someone with my old shitty fone on the same network yet i have a full signal.

Then the battery life, i get days out of mine at a time. Yet i hear people all the time now saying "oh i need to charge mine twice a day."

Fuck that shit. Signal and battery should be paramount before all those "fancy" features...

bronco67 07-22-2011 04:11 PM

I read somewhere that you can try draining the battery to 0% and then recharging. Maybe that's already happened.

MrFeenix 07-22-2011 05:35 PM

I use Juice Defender and Android Assistant on my Epic and it almost doubled the battery life. Both are free in the Market.

I don't get any signal problems with my phone :)

The thing is, I need a good phone with features like internet browsing, chat music and games because when I'm out and about not only can I pass time with the fun features but also its my way of getting things done like, sending emails check things online. I got the galaxy s2 because its super fast and makes all these task seem effortless.

"BUT" doing so many tasks can drain the battery very quickly. To much power is such a thin phone.

My girlfriend just got this phone yesterday.

The guy in the shop told her Skype video calling worked on it when she asked, but apparently that's bullshit.

I feel like telling her to take it back to him tomorrow. If he wasn't sure, he shouldn't make it up...

it says right now it's possible on Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro. but shortly more phones will be added, might be worth waiting a little
