You are correct, the UK really does suck.

I am currently thinking of giving the Philippines a go.

Emil 07-21-2011 12:54 PM

Sweden is great because the taxes are incredible high and you really feel that you're a kind person when you pay the rent, food and all other things for the immigrants coming here and they dont have to work! Fantastic!

to be honest, i am fed up with the uk and so many people these days have been given power over you.

everyone has access to databases on you.

police in the uk feel they can do what they want and never get into bother.

i am just fed up of living in a police state.

i do not give a hoot about the uk.

its a shame nepolian did not win.

JamesGw 07-21-2011 01:14 PM

I've spent a lot of time in Iceland. I really like it there, although the business opportunities are kind of slim and they're having financial problems tied to the bank collapse and Icesave. Still an awesome country. The air is so clean too.

Best-In-BC 07-21-2011 01:14 PM

Oh, any specific area? Or just in general? I read the people are more welcoming than in Thailand.

I have heard Manila is a place to stay away from, was thinking of Cebu or Demaguete.

Sure but if you work on the internet, then how does slim business opportunities hurt you? Also, doesn't the weak Iceland currency increase buying power for people from the UK?

By the way, a lot of talk is that the UK wont increase interest rates until late 2012, so a weak pound might well be on the cards at least over the next year or so.

bread and cheese is nice, plus its warm.

i always find it odd when brits move to france, but live on the coast facing england. it seems pointless to move.

i would love to live on a french farm. if the films are anything to go by, they are full of hot french babes who are sex crazed and want sex with the farm hands.

Australia is too hot, and all ther animals want to kill you.

I can get the same affect by setting myself on fire and jumping on a wasps nest.

DVTimes 07-21-2011 01:34 PM

i tell you what looks a great place is china.

not in the towns were it looks poluted and they eat dogs.

but in the countryside were its clean, and looks like a painting.

i would be happy working on a paddy field.

DVTimes 07-21-2011 01:35 PM

or india, but high up were its much cooler.

i could become a bolywood actor.

spazlabz 07-21-2011 01:37 PM

I think most people have the grass is always greener syndrome. If things around you aren't that good you think somewhere else will be better, you'd be happier etc...

I live in the US and since I am very progressive I tend to believe that Europe would be better but I won't know for sure unless I live there for awhile

BFT3K 07-21-2011 01:41 PM

You seem to have a good grasp on reality. Maybe you should move to Narnia...

PiracyPitbull 07-21-2011 01:57 PM

I spent 32 years in the UK and 7 in the US.

Id take the US standard of living any day of the week.

I know this will depend on which state and city you live in but I've been to about 14 states so far and some things seem reasonably common. I also live in a city, not in the boonies.

Houses are bigger for the same or much less money. (I pay less now on a 4000 sqft home than I did on a 1600 sqft in the UK)
Gas is cheaper.
Traffic (depending on where you live and commute) is less. Dual or three lane roads are very common. I haven't been stuck behind a caravan or tractor for 7 years ...in fact I've never seen a caravan in the US, maybe they're illegal ?

Downsides would obviously be no free medical and traditional type boozers. I'm trying to think of the last bar I went into that didn't have 94 flatscreens but apart from that, it wins hands down.

Please note: THE MAJORITY

= The majority of the people are corrupted stealing thiefs...
= The pollution pretty much all around is horrible
= Immigration laws are terrible but than again corrupted as well
= They see a white guy... they think $$$ and will do anything to grab/steal/take it from you
= Not to mention it became an expensive country to live in... in a nice area you pay 3400$ for a 3-bedroom these days...

From what I have seen in Thailand and heard from over 20 people that live there...
= Less corruption
= Less pollution
= The majority are nice and friendly people

Thanks a lot for that insight!

Might have to do some rethinking on that one, maybe give both countries a couple of weeks to test.

HBKKH 07-21-2011 02:48 PM

just bounce around from country to country. That is if you have not got married with kids.

MaDalton 07-21-2011 02:55 PM

May to September => Czech Republic (nice weather, girls, cheap beer etc)

October to April => Thailand (dito)

i am working on it...

Porko 07-21-2011 02:56 PM

Why a single country when you can travel all over the world all the time?

A very kind offer, thanks!

I'll gather some thoughts and hit you up.

I would definitely like to avoid the famed balcony plunge if possible:)

Some fool recommended Thailand. Did you know that only 0.4% of UK citizens travelling abroad go to Thailand, but 69% of all UK citizens murdered abroad are murdered in Thailand? That's not only the case of the UK, though. More foreigners are killed in Thailand in generals than in the rest of the world combined (aka foreign nationals in other countries). Thai inherent xenophobia is known far and wide and they don't even try to hide it. Thais who killed a foreigner are usually seen as heroes and the police as well as judges see their acts as perfectly justified because "it was just a farang so who cares"!

i may understand that regarding UK citizens - although germans are not any better

but it basically comes down to respect - respecting Thai people and their culture. the way i have seen some people behaving there (and i am sure there's a lot worse), i am not surprised they are trying to get rid of them

if you're humble and treat everyone like a human being i am sure you have no problem.
