Man who SFPD shot DID have gun...

Quote:

The person who shot the video claims to have spotted in the footage a silver handgun, which was later picked up by someone who disappeared into the crowd. Updated: The gun can be seen 15 seconds into the video, which is marked in the updated video, via SF Citizen. Update: ABC7 reports that SFPD recovered the gun from the person who took it from the scene, via SFist commenter, Mike.
They also tested his hands positive for gunshot residue.

Harding, a Seattle resident, was a person of interest in a shooting in that city last week that killed a 19-year-old pregnant woman and injured three other people, police said.
He was on parole in Washington State after serving part of a 22-month sentence for attempting to promote the prostitution of a 14-year-old girl, and was in violation of his parole by being in San Francisco, according to police.

...investigators said tests found gun residue on 19-year-old Kenneth Harding's hand, indicating he fired the first shot at officers Saturday.

Police Chief Greg Suhr said the Seattle man fired the first shot at the officers, who shot back about nine times. Harding was pronounced dead after the chase in the Bayview neighborhood that began when officers approached him for not paying his fare on a light-rail train.

Harding was on parole for promoting prostitution in Washington state and was a person of interest in a fatal shooting in Seattle last week, authorities said.

You are telling me that Where this incident occurred, there just * happened * to be a gun chilling there for no reason? Because you know, I see random guns just laying in the street everywhere I go in SF :1orglaugh

Yep, this gun laying there must have been a coincidence lol... no biggie.

And... "They also tested his hands positive for gunshot residue."

its assumed a gun you cant even really see what it is. :2 cents: could be a pop tart who the fuck knows? the people that were there maybe.

blackmonsters 07-20-2011 09:51 PM

That could be the gun on the ground, the video is not that clear.
I was listening for the reporter to say something about it but I don't think he did.

That's really wild if that is the gun. An angry person could have picked it up and
fired it.

Not good if that's the gun and it took that long for cops to secure it.
It would be a poor job to get shot at, then shoot the suspect and
not find the gun while 100 people walk all around it.

100 people there and none of them saw the gun on the ground?

As for gun shot residue, hmmmmmmmmm, he was shot with a gun five times.
That might just leave some residue.

If he had a gun then it doesn't matter who fired first. He'd only have to brandish
the gun to get shot.

tical 07-20-2011 10:15 PM

He shot at police. Violated his parole by being in San Francisco... on parole for trying to turn a 14 year old into a prostitute. Also suspected of murdering a pregnant woman in Washington.

Fuck him.

Rochard 07-20-2011 10:40 PM

Why is this even a discussion? He was wanted in connection to a recent murder in Washington, was stupid enough to return to SF, stupid enough to attract the attention of police over bus fare, pulled a gun and fired at police, and then was shot dead. The gun is in the video, was picked up, police found out who grabbed it, and confiscated the gun.

At what point did we just assume police have done something wrong? This was a hardcore criminal, most likely a killer, and the gun was on the video that claims he was an "innocent kid"

Rochard 07-20-2011 10:45 PM

Even if he was an honor roll student with 0 criminal history... shooting at police is enough to get you justifiably killed.

where is the part where he was shooting at the cops? i didn't see that.

bean-aid 07-20-2011 11:12 PM

I thought he picked up a pink cell phone... right? The guy who picked up the gun picked up a pink cell phone first... the other photos nobody picked up.

Was it a gun or a cell phone? Point is police like to shoot bad people and they did. They shot him in the back, fiver times.

The gun didn't "fly" when he was shot. He fired at police, fled, was chased, and ditched the gun before he was shot. He ditched the gun as he was running.

He was never really a suspect at anything. The kid got into an argument with a bus driver over fare, and the cops approached him.

Why can't the suspect just be a "shitty person"?
Why is it important to you that he be a "shitty black person"?

They generally mean the gun powder residue that you get on your hands from firing the gun. I just had to kill a skunk in my back yard with a shotgun yesterday and I could smell the gun powder all over my right hand.

Police said amateur video showed a .45-caliber pistol they believe was used by Harding. Investigators said they recovered what appears to be the same weapon after it disappeared from the scene.

San Francisco police also said an audio recording of Saturday's shooting indicates Harding fired the first shot.

Police said a man seen in a video took the pistol from the shooting scene. They said they've recovered the weapon but that he also took shell casings and a cellphone.

Hey, I'm just as skeptical about police as the next guy. They do some shady shit sometimes. But this case, where I first heard about it I said "Great, another pointless killing by cops."

Then I started reading more about it. And think this case is different than the Oscar Grant where he was shot in the back while face down and handcuffed.

1. This guy was running away because they were approaching him about bus fare.
2. He didn't wanna get in trouble because he's a murder suspect (guilty obviously since he's running from the cops here for a simple bus fare inspection)
3. Shot back at the cops while running (because there is no way he wants to go back to prison)
4. He was probably able to throw the gun, then police shot him.
5. The police shot him back.

This guy was running away and was probably able to throw the gun, if you look it's not that far of a throw, a 6 yr old could. And they shot him.

there's witnesses on the other side saying he was running with his hands in the air. how is a damn audio prove anything? anyway if he didnt live the wrong way maybe he would be alive. they didnt secure the scene because there was a ton of gangsters in their face and they were scare.
