Why The Fuck!?!?!?!

1 hour now and i can not for the life of me work out why my fucking computer will not let me capture an image from a video...

Print screen does not work, HyerSnap does not work! GRRRR! whats going on???

I have windows XP installed!

Due to the way videos are display with at least Windows Media Player (and probably a lot of other players), your screenshot will end up having a big black space in place of the real video. I've often remedied this by either doing the shot really fast (with HyperSnap) or using something like VirtualDub to isolate a single frame in it.

Try a few different players and see if you can get it. Adobe Premiere is another good option.

just turn off the overlay option

DX gave you the solution.

In Windows Media Player

Tools--->Options---->Performance

push the slider on 'Hardware Acceleration' to 'None'

you can also use animation shop pro, I always use that program... just open a file and pick a frame from it.

ok, there is only one way I have found to do it.

1. http://www.download.com and search for "Cliprex"
2. Download it
3. Open it
4. Add files to the playlist, open one of them
5. Right click on the playing video and go to "capture photos"
6. Click on Disable Overlay... you can then capture in cliprex... or if doing it with an independent program... exit the capture photos menu
7. You will be prompted to enable overlay or leave it disabled... Regardless, choose NO

You will have to run the movies which you wish to gain captures of in cliprex, but you can use an independent program to do it. Your videos have disabled overlay as long as you play it in cliprex and as long as cliprex is open(obviously)

Now... who wants to eat my ass?
