Yep, I'm Asian so I've got some Neanderthal DNA. Still a mystery why they died out. Supposedly they had larger brains but maybe this was offset by some other factor that didn't contribute to their survival chances -- as a group.

also the fact that non Africans all have Neanderthal DNA only further backs up the claim that they did not die out ...

No, it's not a direct line. The neandertal line died out, but not before some interbreeding with homo sapiens.

Homo sapiens appears to have originated in north africa, and spread out from there to dominate the planet.

We moved north and lived alongside neadertalis for some 40-60K years.

Neadertal was adapted to cold and megafauna and as the earth warmed after the last ice age they went extinct.

Techniically we are hybrids. Crossbred is also accurate. Inbred implies breeding only inside a limited moiety, that is, only with close relatives.

But we modern humans first appeared in north africa somewhere between 160k to 110k years ago, as far as we can tell now.

Neandertal, on the other hand, may have been truly european, evolved from the homo erectus line that migrated out of africa 1.8 to 1 million years ago.

We north africans took over their territory and liked it. Fewer parasites, and we had invented sewing.

i read a cool sci fi story where they postulated that Neanderthals died out because they were built too hardy. So they had bigger bones, weighed more and took more energy(food) to maintain.

They made some neanderthals in a lab in south korea in the book, who eventually get out and start being adopted by people. Later on the Neanderthals go on to dominate in sports, especially physical contact sports. They also were much smarter then the average human, and started to take over in the scientific arena as well.

It's been pretty clear for a while that cross breeding happened to some degree. The extent is up for debate. I don't know if I've ever read this study. I might have to check it out.

i don't think it's such a simple, black or white issue. it's more complex than that.

from a quick search i have discovered that homo heidelbergensis is a descendant of neanderthal and homo sapiens.. all the 'cross hybrids' aside, if evolution was to take form in terms of our dating, everyone ( and their dog haha) is a descendant of the neanderthal line.. some might be more or less, but how someone makes bullshit news out of this is kinda crazy

anyway, none of this bullshit makes any sense other than 'of course i knew neanderthals were still around.. mouth breathers..' the 30k year time line is funny, as if any of the structures being explored now are to be believed, we were building civilzations with the tech to build pyramids 20k years after the homo sapiens sapiens 'developed'
