Should I sue my Doctor? LOL
Timeline
June 17 Get blood samples taken for my annual HIV test and a sample for cholesterol which is always high and have been taking meds for. June 18 thru July 30 Nothing. No phone calls nothing. So I assume I don't have aids and my cholesterol is fine. July 31 1:55PM (5 minutes before they close for the weekend and holiday) I get a phone call which I miss but they left a recording as follows: "This is Dr blahs office. You need to call us as soon as possible" July 5th I call them after a long weekend of planning out my remaining years only to hear the nurse say "your cholesterol is high the Doctor wants you to come in". UNFUCKING real |
What a F'ed up weekend that must have been!
How many bucket list items did you cross off? |
yeah he should mention its something about cholesterol, instead let you think about hiv...
|
July 8th
"Good news, sir! Your cholesterol is FINE .. your HIV was interfering with the test results!" |
lol had a similar call from doctor recently.
annual bloodwork done , usually they call and say " results are all good " a few days later, this time they said " the doctor needs to speak with you personally about the results of your bloodwork" so naturally i am shitting bricks.. then she says " we are all booked up this week , i can make you an appointment for next week" . turned out my white blood cell count was a bit high thats all , after me freaking out all week waiting.. |
huh, my annual bloodwork gets mailed to me 3-5 days later with hand written notes from my doctor as to what can be done if anything is out of whack. then, he does a follow up call a few days later to make sure i understood everything.
This last blood test, iron was low so was hemoglobin. He wrote start an iron supplement and re-schedule in the next 6-8 weeks. |
said the same thing to me when i had tests done. I wasn't expecting anything bad with mine but when they say you need to come in right away it would make just about anyone nervous...
i was ready to slap him when he told me my cholesterol was a little higher than normal! |
Welcome to the world of UEI medical office staff...

Had a similar thing happen to me... only worse. Took the regular blood test, got a call that I ha to come in right away. After I was able to get in touch with them, over the phone, the nurse told me I had low white blood cells or something, which is a symptom of cancer. I went on a trip to Indy for a Colts game thinking I was dying, until my appointment with the doctor the next week... where I was told I was fine, nothing wrong.

I bet that receptionist was chuckling to herself the whole weekend.
. |
arent you married?
why would you need to get tested for aids every year |
sounds like a fun weekend :thumbsup :1orglaugh

I always get my blood test at the supermarket and they post them online so I can see then I bring it with me to the doctor. not sure if they screen HIV
|
Some doctors are fucking retarded. My family doctor told my dad that he probably had colen cancer. Turned out to be an ulcer. She told him without running any tests etc. Unreal.

Had some tests run, doctor called me in to review results, didn't say anything to indicate it was anything out of the ordinary. Went in, doctor tells me they think I have carcinoma of the ampulla of vater- which is a form of pancreatic cancer. She then goes on and on to say that this cancer is SO rare you could see 100k patients and never come across someone with it. She orders and MRCP scan to confirm or deny initial findings. I have to drive myself home completely shattered, I google the cancer to find out if I have it the odds are way against me, I've got a 60% change I'm going to die in the next 5 years. Then my insurance denied the MRCP test. :Oh crap Eventually after paniced and pleading phone calls I get the test approved and rescheduled. They take another week to tell me the results. All in all spent about 2 weeks thinking I had terminal pancreatic cancer. Could be worse, I mean, on the bright side none of us were handed a death sentence when some of our fellow GFYers have,]. Please don't mistake my bitching for not being grateful to still be alive, but holy christ- don't tell someone you think they have a terminal form of cancer if you aren't sure that's what it is. :disgust |

Choker, i have high cholesterol too, it sucks! |
nope
doctors live for that shit |
That is why I don't take blood tests ...
|
I'd go to the clinic with a machine gun and start capping ass or leave a burning bag of dog shit on the front door
|
Reminds me of that joke. What do they call the guy who graduates last in med school? Doctor!
|
Sue the nurse
|
When it comes to HIV tests, they are supposed to tell you that you have to come in for results one way or another.
The reason is if they always say you're fine and then one time say something else, you'll know and may not go in for confirmation test or proper counseling. A lot of doctors don't know or do this. The ones who have had to give a few "I'm sorry" talks do. |
there no better here in australia

LOL, thanks for all the re-quote love.
I had something kinda similar happen. Did a nuclear stress test due to chest pains, left the hospital, and as soon as I got home, I got a call. Doctor said "how far are you from the hospital? can you come back RIGHT now?" LOL, turned out I had a heart attack and never even knew it. Was hilarious. Well, in hindsight. This was at 28 or 29, too. Genetic flaw in my heart -- when I had my heart cath, my arteries were 0% blocked, doc said I had the heart of a 13 year old, ha! The funniest part (to me) is that my cholesterol was 450, and my triglycerides were 690! "Off the charts" the doc said, and tested twice more to confirm. Something about my heart genetically just runs very high cholesterol, etc, but causes zero damage. Rock on with my mutant powers! |
Here's the long(er) version, from my personal blog:

@edgeprod — you should be on statin therapy to bring the cholesterol counts down to a more normal level and possibly Plavix and aspirin to reduce blood platelet activity. From what you say it sounds like you are a ticking bomb ... there is some good news out today — how it may apply to your case I am not sure http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/n...relieve-angina |
Good news in the end, the important part.

I suggest eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Hamburger, large fries with a strawberry shake for lunch. Steak and lobster, loaded baked potato, mac and cheese and maybe even toss in some fried onion rings or better yet calamari for dinner and finish it off with a banana split. Try that for a week or two straight and avoid the doctor..
Seriously though. I won't know what my cholesterol level is until I'm dead. As far as the other, well.. There's ways of protecting yourself from that.. |
