What phone to buy?

I think I need an upgrade from my current piece of crap stone age phone.

All I hear about is iphone 4, samsung galaxy s 2 and htc.

So which phone would you recommend me buy?

djroof 07-06-2011 03:40 PM

Of course GALAXY S 2

A lot of people say this is a good phone.

Diomed 07-06-2011 04:53 PM

Smart phones are a colossal waste of time.

raymor 07-06-2011 05:17 PM

I returned the first smartphone I bought years ago. I really like my Andriod phone, though. I'm answering you via my low end Samsung. I much prefer the openness of Android to the iphone, where Apple feels that they should decide which content is appropriate for me to see. Steve Jobs actually said that people who want to see porn should get Android.

The Swype keyboard software is much better than pecking at buttons. The one thing I miss from getting a low end device us that my phone has little internal memory. Most apps can be moved to the SD card, but some have to be in internal storage.

I'm at a social event my wife brought me to. From here, I can read my office mail via IMAP and see that a customer has a problem. I can then look at their FTP info stored on my office machine and FTP or SSH to their site and fix it. Almost anything I can do from the office I can do with Android. I have had a few "typos" in this post where the touch screen recognized a word wrong and I had to correct it.

When the office internet goes down I'll just tether the router to my phone and run the office over 3G until the internet is fixed.

I don't think that the Galaxy S2 is available in the US yet.

srockhard 07-06-2011 05:39 PM

Replying via Samsung Vibrant and love it. I use the Tweet Deck app constantly as well as countless others. Only complaint is the tethering capabilities are somewhat difficult to get working and the GPS is not always 100%. Other amazing things I do on this baby include email, streaming live video, tuning my guitar and tracking my Google analytics just to name a few.

You can fix those tethering issues pretty easily.

Why is that?

d-null 07-06-2011 08:04 PM

Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation are the only choices really :2 cents:

AnimeFevers 07-06-2011 08:16 PM

Does the galaxy s2 have 3g on the pay as you go version?

GetSCORECash 07-06-2011 08:28 PM

If you can hold off for a few the Epic 2 is about to come out soon. If you have to buy today, the atrix would be my only other choice.

Maybe for you they are. But I tether my laptop to my Android smartphone all day long and get respectable 3G and 4G speeds to get business done while I am on set all day. Not to mention a million other uses including the Maps & GPS features for traveling, voice & threaded text for communication, calendar, email, task manager, social media for business and personal gain, Facebook to stay in touch with family and a lot more.

Slick 07-06-2011 10:55 PM

Droid 3 is coming out in the next week or two, I'd probably wait for that.

bloggerz 07-06-2011 11:02 PM

grumpy 07-07-2011 12:10 AM

JackDaniels 07-07-2011 12:49 AM

I switched from iPhone 3GS to HTC Sensation. My entire operation is Google Apps based and 'in the cloud'. Android and HTC Sensation works great for me.

Chosen 07-07-2011 01:28 AM

Galaxy S 2 probably will be a better choice :pimp

Why? Isn't this just another phone like the samsung galaxy s2 and sensation, just trying to keep up with the competition?

What will droid 3 have what the others wont?

TB Adriana 07-07-2011 07:09 AM

my Samsung Galaxy S2 just arrived today and I am suuupeeeer thrilled over it:):):) (can you tell?)
before i bought it I read a pretty cool comparative review SamsungGalaxy S2 vs Iphone 4 and galaxy seemed to be way superior. I can't find it right now, but will post it as soon as i do.

It has a 1200 Mhz Intel Dual core processor at 1024 RAM - i used to play stuff like Mass Effect on a laptop with a worse configuration than that

Sid70 07-07-2011 08:20 AM

as an expensive toy - Galaxy S 2 no shit.
if you are a mac driven then iphone 4.

mavruda 07-07-2011 08:28 AM

I'd jump on HTC.

Vendzilla 07-07-2011 08:47 AM

I have the droid Charge, have to charge it twice a day, but it's worth the effort for all the things it does. 4g is really fast, camera takes great pics and the video is HD. I need to load a ovie on it to see how thats going to work.

I love my HTC Evo 4G smartphone and Android as an OS, and I do selectively use *some* of Google's services in limited ways including Gmail, calendar, tasks, maps and some others. But I don't feel comfortable putting all my business contacts, schedule and email "in the cloud". Don't you worry about the service gettting hacked or for the integrity and security of your precious data & history? Luckily HTC has a USB cable to sync contacts and the phone's default calendar so I am not forced to sync absolutely everything with the cloud, just whatever I feel comfortable with like certain calendars. Even my email I use mostly my domain email and check it through IMAP for just that reason.
