i've used godaddy for like 7 years never once had a problem. why does everyone despise them?

I never had a problem too, but I do not like them because they try to sell things and things that I don't want when I'm trying to register a domain.

I prefer companies like dynadot.com - clean and easy to use website.

I'll use them for $1 domains and some auctions, but my domains get transferred out of there 61 days later.

Couple of reasons for that:
-control panel is slow and crappy imho
-takes too long to purchase a domain, and too many upsells
-domain suspensions for sometimes dubious reasons, and extortion-like pricing to get the domain released
-breaking ICANN regulations by locking domains for 60 days if you update the contact info
-Godaddy Backorders is horrible, failing to even grab domains that are registered at Godaddy
