Smoking banned in the Philippines
True fucking story dude. MANILA, Philippines - Starting next week, smokers will be unwelcome in public places along major and secondary roads of the metropolis.
That fucked up or what? I thought the Philippines was a place for idiots like me to go and blow all my money. This is just uncalled for. |

Doesn't surprise me a bit. More and more people are realizing just what a drain smoking is on any society over time.
Again, doesn't surprise me a bit. |
You're not even allowed to smoke in your own car with the new law.
But it's only for public major roads, it doesn't make any sense. You can still smoke in bars and clubs etc. |

so glad i quit smoking after 15 years. i wish america would have banned them before i turned 16 and decided to give away 30 or 40 years of my life to those damn things

The kinds of anti-smoking laws I support are the ones that say if the smoke you are producing is in proximity to other people in such a way that they might breath it in then your so-called "rights as a smoker" cease to exist, period.
Smoking alone in your car should be allowed. Smoking outdoors in an area where there are only other smokers and no one else OR you are far enough away from other people that it's a non-issue then you should be allowed to smoke your brains out. But again, the long-term health fallout from smoking IS a huge drain on any society that allows it, so expect harsher and harsher anti-smoking laws in more and more countries as time goes on. It's just the way times are changing, and frankly I support it. |

So they aren't banning smoking in all of the Philippines. Just a city. And just in public places.
It's like this nearly everywhere now. |

I smoke once a in a while...sucks in phillipines

The funny thing is Manila is one of the most polluted cities in the world. They should ban jeepneys and the 100yr old busses instead.

But will they enforce the law?
That's the problem with most of the developing countries. They pass laws that are never enforced or only enforced for a short period. |
Sounds good, smoking kills :pimp

When I read about the new smoking laws in the Philippines I was concerned for the human rights of this poor chap, but then I remembered he lives in the Indonesia so will be unaffected by the ban

could ever do in his life time. But nobody is banning cars. Hmmmmmmm? People will claim that they got lung cancer from secondary smoke at their place of work; but they fail to tell us that they spent 1 hour a day for the last 10 years standing on a street corner waiting for the bus ride to and from work. They breath in the equivalent of 15 packs of cigarette toxins on each round trip to work because of breathing car exhaust. But hey, it's the cigarettes! Bullshit. |

They are enforcing it. 500 peso on the spot fine if caught. Mind you... they don't fuck with the foreigners who are lit up... just the locals. http://i52.tinypic.com/oid2sw.jpg |

The truth of the matter is the Philippines is just like many Spanish-colonized 3rd world countries-a small percentage of the population pimping the rest through fucked up high prices due to monopolies and the government exists to make sure the pimping continues. People vote with their feet--that's why a large chunk of the middle and many of the qualified working class have left. See why: http://www.ich9.com/philippine-econo...inos-are-pigs/ Emigrating doesn't really help those left behind because of this: http://www.ich9.com/philippine-econo...ppine-economy/ True freedom - real freedom can only come from a more open economy and REAL competition in the local marketplace. Sadly, that's not going to happen anytime soon since "nationalists" get moist at the idea of unwittingly helping local monopolists (who are really frontmen for SE Asia plutocrats) by insisting that any opening of the local economy is tantamount to selling out the Philippines' patrimony :1orglaugh:(:helpme |

blah blah blah but still Philippines is the Asia’s best country for women
Newsweek Ranks Philippines Best Country for Women in Asia This popular magazine analyzed 165 countries to see which ones offered women the best quality of life. The Philippines ranked 17. Newsweek Magazine recently released a report entitled "Best and Worst Countries for Women," which ranked 165 countries' treatment of women in terms of rights and quality of life. The Philippines is the only Asian country in the top 20, landing at no. 17 with a score of 86.3 out of 100. "This is an affirmation of the respect our culture has always accorded to Filipino women—one that manifests itself as well in our government’s efforts to promote equal gender opportunities in all spheres of public policies and programs," presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a statement. "Rest assured, our administration remains committed in advancing the quality of life of all Filipinos from all walks of life." Using data from the United Nations and the World Economic Forum, Newsweek ranked the countries according to different aspects of living: justice, health, education, economics, and politics. European country Iceland got full marks and snagged the top spot in the overall ranks with Sweden, Canada, Denmark, and Finland rounding out the top 5. Meanwhile, the worst country for women is the Central African country Chad, which got a score of 0. Afghanistan, Yemen, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mali followed close behind. Yeah lets ban more and more shit and let the government make more and more rules, that way the world will be a happy safe place. Maybe the government can make a curfew next so that everybody will be asleep at 10pm because too little sleep is also a health hazard. |
hide in a back alley and smoke hahaha
