Best HD Brand?

Out of Maxtor, Seagate and WD?

Also... I've got a damned trojan in my svchost.exe scanned multiple times with norton... it finds it, just cant do anything about it...

I've gotta get a new HD anyways... Figure, I can just install win2k back on that drive, and skip backuping... by moving the necessary files from the first partition, and then reformating it?

Is that viable?

We use 12 (we get a new one every other week almost) WD 200Gig externals. And I fight with those fuckers every week. I fianlly dumped the OS and went back to Win2Kpro and still had problems.

Turns out it was a firewire/mother board conflict. It's all good now, and these drives are hummin' away.

WD 200 gig external are good, but if you have problems it could be hardware (not software) as I found out the hard way.

Also... do you think you run the risk of draggin that virus with you? Have you tried a different anti-virus software? I heard some viruses are too small to be detected by Norton.

(edit)

Oh, by the way... Sorry Drew. I just killed your thread, I'm on a roll tonight.

Ya, I wanna just grab an internal tho, no need to spend the extra cheese... I think. =)

I figure, I do run the chance, but atleast then it wont be a trojan on the OS, it'll just be a file on the 2nd HD...

can do a clean sweep before moving to the new drive, I think... =/

Maxtor my asshole apart. LOL!

WD all the way!

If you aren't looking for superior performance than go with a western digital.

If you want performance than checkout Seagate

WD is sick

Maxtor is very good as well :2 cents:

I've used IBM Ultra and DeskStar before... but they are kind of crappy. Now I have a few Maxtor Atlas10K III + IV
http://www.maxtor.com/en/products/sc...k_iv/index.htm

Very reliable and faster than the IBMs

supportex 01-27-2003 06:29 AM

I would not recommend using WD from my experience :(
seagate is quite ok

jollyperv 01-27-2003 06:30 AM

Maxtor's always been fine for me.

DrewKole 01-27-2003 06:32 AM

Hmm, I found a decent price on that scsi drive, but... do those Ultra 160 cards run alot?

Cant seem to find a decent priced one... all $300 +.

SG gets my vote as well. Quietest drives made.
