HBO GO - If you don't have it, get it! (if you can)

Of course, you need a subscription to HBO to begin with and the service has to be accessible through your current cable provider. Strangely Time Warner Cable and Cablevision opted out even tho HBO didn't want any fees from them.

I downloaded it to my iPad the other night after True Blood to watch the second episode a week early. Then, yesterday caught the 1st episode of Game of Thrones on my PC in my office.

Pretty cool service ... lots of extras - and you get the whole HBO line up and even more older programming than On Demand offers ... anywhere you GO on your iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or Android devices!

I have HBO, but my cable provider isn't supported. It seems very limited with cable company support :(

Wish HBO would offer that Go thing as a stand alone service. I'd pay $30/mo for streaming only HBO content in a heartbeat.

Brujah 06-28-2011 12:43 PM

Yep i'm with Time Warner too. Odd that they haven't participated since they're HBO's parent company. They let the ball drop on this one.

Brujah 06-28-2011 12:46 PM

We'll just have to drop Time Warner and switch to Verizon FiOS, or other.

time warner said no because they want us to use their awful app ;/

Hear that ... and that might be why these other cable providers won't carry the service. They're afraid that might happen. See below.

This is interesting, and I guess makes sense:

No one is saying what the problem is, though it could have to do with HBO's desire to build a direct online relationship with its 29 million subscribers?something that makes cable operators nervous.

The irony is that HBO developed the service with Time Warner Cable in 2008, when they were part of one corporate family. The cable division was spun off from Time Warner the following year. Lately, dealings between operators and programmers have grown testy as both sides experiment with new formats.
