Is It Better To Use An Alarm Clock?

For those of you (us) who are "living the dream" and working from home/for yourself (or working for "the Man" but you get to set your own hours):

Do you get up when you want to, when your body naturally wakes up, or do you use an alarm clock?

I find that if I don't use an alarm clock I'll wake up whenever and it's harder to get started. I use an alarm now but for years didn't use one at all because I wasn't working such insane round-the-clock hours and could be on a somewhat regular sleep schedule. Which is better, healthier, more productive, etc?

Of course I come to GFY for such information. :D

Only time I set an alarm is if I actually want to be up early for something. And that is very rare.

martinsc 06-28-2011 12:53 AM

yes, I wake up everyday at the exact same time (5:45) i use an alarm clock, but most of the time I'll be waking up a few moments before it goes off...

waltgator 06-28-2011 12:55 AM

i use an alarm when i have meetings of conference calls otherwise its me internal clock or woody!

Darkhorse 06-28-2011 01:57 AM

Who needs an alarm clock with kids, them fuckers are up by 6.am every morning jumping on me no matter what.

Kiopa_Matt 06-28-2011 02:01 AM

Nope, I let my body decide when it's had enough sleep. Except I don't allow myself to lay in bed and relax while waking up. I'll always immediately jump out of bed, and head to the shower.

I find if I lay there for 15 minutes and relax, I'll feel groggy for the first hour or two, and takes me longer to get going.

5.45 that's the middle of the night, what time do you go to bed 10?

Vjo 06-28-2011 02:19 AM

Naah The whole idea of working for yourself is ditching the alarm clock and sleeping as much as you want. :)

There will be plenty of time for work. What else are you gonna do. :) Your leg is now chained to your websites. :) You don't need an alarm as well.

You make it like work, you burn out fast. You make it fun, you can do things as you want, which just will happen to be almost everyday. :Oh crap :)

This is fun :)

always ask, what would Frank do :) he'd sleep in and keep it very casual hehe

the summer wind came blowing in

:)

"Is It Better To Use An Alarm Clock?"

Well, if you mean for 'waking up' then yes, its better to use an alarm clock than say an Audi 350 TT RS Coupe... I much prefer to awaken to the dulcet tomes of a bleep, as opposed to 3 tonnes of metal, crashing through my bedroom window, and catapulting me off the bed...

Plus, its cheaper as well... So I say yes

AnimeFevers 06-28-2011 04:32 AM

I put my alarm about 3 feet away from my bed so I gotta get up to turn it off, I make sure I have an unbearable alarm so I gotta wake up to turn it off lol

TB Adriana 06-28-2011 04:56 AM

I wake up to the sweet sounds of ATB's song black nights every morning. Or else I don't wake up at all

Phoenix 06-28-2011 04:59 AM

i usually wake up before my alarm clock goes off
but i set it anyway :)

beerptrol 06-28-2011 05:09 AM

I love to get a few things done and have a cup of coffee before the kids wake up :>)

L-Pink 06-28-2011 10:13 AM

I never use an alarm clock. I also never know when I'm going to sleep.

The Porn Nerd 06-28-2011 10:19 AM

I just got up.

PS: Sales are shitty.

Chosen 06-28-2011 10:44 AM

I wake up whenever I want most of the time.

Scott McD 06-28-2011 11:16 AM

I decide before i go to bed whether i'm using an alarm the next morning or not...

Rochard 06-28-2011 11:23 AM

I work from home, no alarm clock, and get up at 6am every morning like clockwork.

Get up at 6am, update a handful of daily blogs, go for my run, shower, breakfast, and back in front of my computer before 9am. Every day.

CDSmith 06-28-2011 11:24 AM

What is this "alarm clock" thing you speak of?

I think the last time I used my clock radio for anything other than glancing at the time was a couple of years ago, I had a 7:30 am appointment (for something, I forget what) and needed to be up by 6.

Other than that haven't used it or thought about it in over 13 years. Btw, anyone want to buy a clock radio? Cheap cheap.

CurrentlySober 06-28-2011 11:25 AM

scouser 06-28-2011 12:25 PM

same here :(

ottopottomouse 06-28-2011 12:39 PM

Last time I relied on an alarm clock was when I was still at school.

The Porn Nerd 06-28-2011 01:39 PM

Interesting responses in this thread. Some who get up whenever they want are still sucessful and others who are more regimented are also successful. Hmmm.....

I'm going back to bed.

96ukssob 06-28-2011 01:43 PM

i set my alarm just in case, i dont want to sleep the day away

bobby666 06-28-2011 02:17 PM

my alarm clock wakes me up at 8 am each day

bronco67 06-28-2011 02:22 PM

Whenever I get up, unless I have deadlines.

I have to admit, there's a real beauty to getting up at 6am and getting tons of shit done before 10am.

u-Bob 06-28-2011 02:26 PM

I use my cell phone for that.

I use mine too. I have two alarms set on it. One that gently encourages me to wake up and get the day started. The second one scares the shit out of me if I happened to have hit the snooze too many times on the first.

The Porn Nerd 06-28-2011 04:35 PM

I read where if you awake at a regular time each day you can "train" your mind unconsciously to always get up at that time. Like an internal clock is set or something so you don't really need an alarm after that.

Others say they visualize a clock in their minds, set to the time they want to awake.

My problem is, I hate going to sleep as much as I hate waking up.

marlboroack 06-28-2011 04:47 PM

I sometimes sleep more than 12 hours a day.
