Do you buy high price domains?

What's the most you've ever spent on a domain purchase?

Chris 06-27-2011 03:12 PM

5,000 - a long time ago for a 3 char .com that flipped a month later for 9k :D

just paid $500 for a domain a few months ago for my wifes mainstream biz

VikingMan 06-27-2011 03:24 PM

My idea of a "high priced domain" is any domain purchase where did not use a coupon :)

Crazy Enough 06-27-2011 03:34 PM

No.

The most expensive domain that I bought was about $ 50.

PR_Dave 06-27-2011 03:37 PM

Couple bucks...

bns666 06-27-2011 03:53 PM

high priced domains aren't what they used to be few years ago, you can always get a better deal if you are willing to negotiate politely - personal experience from both buyer and seller side.

acctman 06-27-2011 04:09 PM

these days you can turn any domain into a hot domain ... so spending thousands for a domain is really pointless. with a little creativity you can come up with your own.

TheDA 06-27-2011 04:12 PM

£25000 .

XPays 06-27-2011 04:20 PM

thread title win lol

bignasty 06-27-2011 04:44 PM

I've only ever bought a domain off of someone one time. Other than thay I have always just registered one. I only paid ten dollars for the one I bought though.

Sly 06-27-2011 04:45 PM

I just bought one for $850, that's my highest. Before that, $500.

bns666 06-27-2011 05:25 PM

soon you'll be able to buy single keyword .com for -$1k.

GAMEFINEST 06-27-2011 05:54 PM

the highest i spent was 1k...a while back tho

Jim_Gunn 06-27-2011 05:59 PM

Most I ever spent on a domain was $500 just to get one back that I let slip several years ago and which was a source of irritation for me. Most I ever sold a domain for was $2000 for a domain that I registered for $35 or whatever the going rate was back a decade or so ago.

It's a tradeoff between buying a premium domain with preexisting mindshare (i.e. common generic word or phrase) and type-in traffic or spending time, effort and money to create that memorable domain yourself.

There have always been sub $1k single keyword .coms for sale. Quality though, is another matter.

Vjo 06-27-2011 06:54 PM

Drive by........

No, but I do sell decent domains very cheap. :)

marlboroack 06-27-2011 08:53 PM

Highest i spent was 9.86 for a .com a few day's ago. It about drained me.

Shoplifter 06-27-2011 08:57 PM

I spent about $1200 on a great one quite a few years ago.

Nowadays paying for porn domains seems pointless.

Sex(dot)com 06-27-2011 09:20 PM

We picked up one. :thumbsup

bloggerz 06-27-2011 09:40 PM

Yes, it adds up every year

Never. I *thought* about buying a mainstream domain that is a substitution of what I own. The domain expired, was picked up by some "domain" company and tried to sling it to me for nearly $1,000. I laughed and said no thanks and they keep emailing me asking why I'm not interested.

Kelli58 06-27-2011 09:57 PM

I've never spent much on buying domain names, can't recall ever spending more than $50 but I did once sell a domain name in 1999 for $40,000 to a car company.
