Is Firefox 5 more stable than its predecessor?

Mozilla looks to solve a myriad of complaints about Firefox 4 crashes with a Firefox 5 update made up mostly of bug fixes

Caligari 06-25-2011 05:49 PM

remains to be seen, i'm still on 3.6 cuz 4 is a bug fuck so i will see how things look after reviews come in.

TubeKing 06-25-2011 05:52 PM

feels exactly the same as 4.

u-Bob 06-25-2011 06:13 PM

still slow and laggy for me, I've pretty much given up and use IE9 and Chrome

CyberHustler 06-25-2011 08:08 PM

I went to Chrome from firefox for I think about 2 years or so... but just last week when I got a new pc I switched back to firefox swiftly and abruptly out of nowhere for no other reason than I think instinct.

AdultKing 06-25-2011 08:09 PM

Firefox 5 seems an improvement on the Mac, it starts up really quickly.

Chosen 06-26-2011 01:36 AM

I will wait until Firefox 10 :pimp

JuicyBunny 06-26-2011 02:46 AM

firefox is the new chrysler...shit, crapola...

seeandsee 06-26-2011 04:19 AM

Chrome is going up and up on my scale, FF must find better core faster!

+1

:Oh crap

Emma 06-26-2011 08:49 AM

Whatever the criticisms about Firefox are, they're not backed by a global conglomerate. Firefox is way more secure than IE, and offers a lot more functionality in terms of addons.

Agree! FF4 was buggy and I never used it, but now I found my way back to my fav browser.

As a sidenote: the latest Opera for mac (v.11.11) is also quite good.

Diomed 06-26-2011 01:46 PM

I'm still using FF 3.6,

fuck the newest version. I don't care if it is light, it's ugly as hell and strange to operate.

MaDalton 06-26-2011 01:54 PM

i run ff 5 - seems fine to me

boneless 06-26-2011 02:02 PM

ff5 is way beter then ff4 (for me ;))

Jim_Gunn 06-26-2011 03:13 PM

Shit, I just checked I'm still on FF 3.6. Sometimes I am hesititant to update because newer isn't always better!

Thanks for the tip :thumbsup

I was using 3.6.18 (highest version of 3.6) but was hesitant to go to 5.0 but now I will go with Palemoon 5.0

http://www.palemoon.org/download-v4.shtml

"Pale Moon 5.0

Speed-optimized version of Firefox 5 designed for the best possible performance"

Vjo 06-26-2011 10:08 PM

Just installed Palemoon 5.0 but it does not support some Firefox 3.6 add ons.

So uninstalled it and went back to Firefox 3.6.18 for now.

Shoot, I dl'd the wrong version :) Maybe I'll try Palemoon 3.*

Vjo 06-26-2011 10:52 PM

OK Palemoon 3.6.18 up and running and seems fine. Already see a couple things that are better than FF.

For one, they removed the erroneous option that was at: Tools/Options/Advanced/System Defaults

There were two options there (the one on the bottom did nothing and seemed erroneous - it could not be unchecked) Now there is just one option there which seems better.

It literally pops up as fast as notepad. Also opens a tad faster than Firefox 3.6.18 which was pretty fast. All addons working well.

So seems like a good move :thumbsup

michael.kickass 06-27-2011 06:08 AM

I got Firefox 5 and so far it's running smoothly

JamesGw 06-27-2011 07:56 AM

It seems about the same to me, honestly.

LA Crew 06-27-2011 02:16 PM

There were still incompatibility issues with some addons in Firefox 4 and there are even more in 5..

scouser 06-27-2011 10:53 PM

no crashes for me so far. ff4 crashed all the time.

buzzard 06-27-2011 11:01 PM

Imna feelin it

V_RocKs 06-28-2011 02:45 AM

Firefox went to shit.

iwantchixx 06-28-2011 05:39 AM

Nope. Still locks up if I have more than 4 tabs open with hi-res photos in it. version 2.x was the cat's meow. It's been rubbish since 3.x

Shey 06-28-2011 05:43 AM

Heh, I just checked and was on 4 all along, time to upgrade I guess. Then again, these days I'm all about chrome

iwantchixx 06-28-2011 01:21 PM

Just installed Palemoon 5, ported bookmarks and passwords over, only had to manually setup two options. This automatically does everything the way I like it.

Loads pretty damn fast. As fast as textpad.

Stability will need to rear it's ugly head or prove valuable when I use it more though.

H-Tom 06-28-2011 01:30 PM

FF 5 is way better than 4.0 and 4.1.

Freaky_Akula 06-28-2011 01:49 PM

I think I'll give this Palemoon a try.

Vjo 06-28-2011 02:00 PM

Palemoon doesnt seem to work with Roboform as FF 3.6.18 did. So went back to 3.6.18

iwantchixx 06-28-2011 03:08 PM

Weird issue, Palemoon wont allow me to send any piece of text in a comment box. I can post topics, but not respond to any. It's like it doesn't recognize the scripting they are using

adultflash 06-28-2011 06:21 PM

+ 1 ff5 really quickly, try Pale Moon x64 - 5.0 thx

_Richard_ 06-28-2011 06:25 PM

ff 5 can't be any worse

Opera is still the best.

I use Opera for work, and Chrome for browsing. Firefox could have been a contender, but, oh well...

Hentaikid 06-28-2011 06:36 PM

Upgraded and it crashed a few minutes into watching a youtube video, then crashed again when trying to recover the session. Crashed repeatedly no matter if I unselected all windows or tried older sessions, in the end I had to reboot the whole PC and I think it started in safe mode or something. Seems to have forgotten the master password too (Maybe it's part of the safe mode thing)

Not impressed so far...

Brent 3dSexCash 06-28-2011 07:11 PM

Switched to chrome a while back. Never looked back. I think firefox is trying now to be too many things to too many people...losing its core.
