More than twice the legal limit and 140 mph =

A dead jackass .......

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn had a blood-alcohol content that was more than twice the legal limit when he and a passenger died in a fiery one-car crash this week, according to a toxicology report.
Dunn's Porsche may have been traveling as fast as 140 mph in a 55 mph zone when it jumped a guardrail, flew into a wooded ravine, struck a tree and burst into flames, police said."

at least he didnt wipe out a whole family too....

did you know that more people are killed in dui related accidents due to reckless driving than actually being intoxicated..

bronco67 06-23-2011 12:44 PM

I think its more of a case of someone dumb enough to think they're invincible. Ryan Dunn was my favorite Jackass guy, BTW.

I've owned a 930 and a 911turbo, older versions of the car he totaled. The car can be an oversteering nightmare if you enter a turn hard then back off of the gas, God help you if you brake. With a 911 you really need to brake in a straight line and accelerate thru all turns. I'll betcha he didn't.

Not really true in a 2007 GT3.

you really can't compare that, especially not with traction control nowadays etc., they got really boring to drive ;)

but at 140 mph you have zero time to react and being more than twice the limit doesnt help either. every mistake in that situation is your last

I know things have changed just not how much. The older ones were tricky at high speed. I don't think the model crashed has traction control though.

.

MaDalton 06-23-2011 01:10 PM

it's called "PSM" - Porsche Stability Management - a 2007 model should have it but you can switch it off when you go on a track

but it also cannot overrule physics - as we see

twistyneck 06-23-2011 01:15 PM

Good, one less drunk on the road. It's a pity that he murdered his passenger, however. But fuck him, I'm glad he's dead.

if you look at the accident photos, it looks like the road merges and he hit the turn a little late. does not look like he lost control of the car from the brake marks..

he just overshot the turn and hit the rail which flipped the car..

While any loss human life is an utter shame, I don't feel one bit bad for him. His passenger, on the other hand, maybe deserves some sympathy unless he knew full well how drunk the dude was.

It is inexcusable to get behind the wheel when drunk. Period. At least he only killed himself and his buddy before he could kill an entire innocent family, someone's parents or some kid.

Maybe this is (at risk being ridiculed for religion) god's way of wiping him off the planet before some innocent person's life is taken.

I have ZERO respect, remorse or pity for anyone who drinks n drives. Way too many innocent people die because of it.

mynameisjim 06-23-2011 01:58 PM

I don't want to talk about this incident.

But in general, guys assume they are great drivers, but driving is a sport and without formal training, you suck at it. You would never think you can rush for 120 yards in a NFL game, yet guys think they can drive a car at 150 mph and be in control.

I would suggest people take one of those racing school courses over a long weekend. First of all it's fun as hell, second of all you see the difference between your own crappy driving skill and real professional who knows how to handle a car at high speeds. It's pretty eye opening.

I rode with a shitty, back of the pack european touring car driver a few years ago.

His skills blew me away and he's barely a pro.

now im no race car driver and I don't claim to be.. I have a little bit of time behind fast cars but that was years ago and many wifves ago.....

but.. by the looks.. if he let off brake got back on gas and veered left could he have pulled that off or was it one of those fucking hit the brakes and it's like being on ice deals?

I could be wrong ...

Like I said.. not a racer never claim to be.. but I know a thing or two about a thing or two...

is it possiable they are skinny cause he had the worse case of the ever dreaded oversteer lockup... (wheels cranked but car go's straight....)

that would explain skinny tire marks... or that could just be straight oversteer alone.. no braked needed......

not sure... but one thing is for sure... 140mph is fast as fuck to crash with no roll cage and 5pt harness and helmet and fire suit and fire system

I'm guessing that one of the things you don't know a thing or two about is tyres? The stock fronts on a GT3 are like 8 inches wide, the rears can be as wide as 12 inches. In the pic the skidmarks aren't even as wide as the freeway lines...

Maybe it's just an optical illusion, but if someone showed me that pic and asked what the skids were from I'd put my money on Prius.

nico-t 06-24-2011 06:16 AM

when i used to drink & drive, no matter how much i had, i always was extra careful and would never speed. I never had any accident, nothing. The reason is you dont want any attention when you would run into a cop. Drinking and driving is possible if you have self control, which alot of people dont have, with Dunn being another example of that.

2MuchMark 06-24-2011 07:58 AM

Rest in Peace, Ryan Dunn. I enjoyed your movies.

dallasnovelty 06-24-2011 08:42 AM

From the pics it looks like the car could have been in a sideways slide and momentum carried it through the guardrail. The tires also narrow at high speeds and if he was still moving 140mph the tires would be quite a bit narrower. That's why bigger cars are kind of unstable at high speeds that and aerodynamics LOL I have been in some street cars at more than 160mph and would have sucked if anything would have blown out or failed because there is a very small window to correct and hold on. I believe the GT3 was made to disintegrate in a crash in a controlled area like a race course but hitting a steel rail possibly sideways and rolling there is no safe place.

MaDalton 06-24-2011 08:45 AM

that cant be skidmarks btw - car has ABS - and they are not wide enough

Was dumb of him to do that, but whatever shit happens. Dunn was my favorite Jackass star, but he shouldn't have been drinking. 100% his fault.

Turns out he was such a bad driver, that some of the guys had him in their death pool dying by vehicle.
