advice- internet & television in downtown los angeles?

i'm setting up shop in a loft in dtla and there are few options in the bdlg.

television- dish network wired the bldg and put a dish on the roof and then signed an exclusive with the bldg owners- no other tele signal is in the bldg.

internet, att wired the bldg and signed and exclusive with bldg owners. the only internet signal available in the bldg is the att uverse 12mbps capped.

mobile hotspot- verizon, not sure about bandwidth capacity in dtla but it supposed to be good enough. t-mobile, just launched their enhanced 4g lte hotspot device, the rocket, claimed max is 42mbps and t-mobile just spent ~$225 million on dtla alone beefing up the 4g lte network there, sounds promising but no reviews yet.

is 12mbps enough? is att uverse as shitty as i've heard? i'm not going to be watching shitloads of tele there but was thinking of running some amount of tele.

should i get att uverse and one of the mobile hotspots? forget att and get just the mobile hotspot?

thoughts? :thumbsup

Get the uverse and make sure you have a direct line to tech support. Get to know the service guys!

Go with the mobile hot spot too for back up, you'll need it. I'm have a floor at 8th and Spring and went through hell figuring it all out.

The irony is when uploading, at times, you'll find the hotspot ( in my case Mifi ) faster than your uverse.

Caps are no where what they claim either. Good luck.

Sorry but downtown LA internet is pretty bad. I have Time Warner Cable at my loft and its the worst POS Ive ever come across...throttles all the time. I'd say Uverse is going to be your best bet. I have it at my office and its pretty solid so far. Only downside I really have with it is that my modems seem to die every year. The 12mbps is going to be fine for the most part...uploading isnt the fastest tho.

If anyone has any info on verizon or sprint hotspots, Im all ears too.

Uverse services seem to vary. I am in LA but not close to DTLA and I have Uverse. Generally its fine but on avg once a month or so we get routing issues which means I can't reach certain sites.

So true, Time Warner is fucked in DT. Uverse is better but still throttles up. The MIFI will save your life. Jail break your Ipad and tether it, I've tried it all. 4G is a fallacy.

I hate it here. The women at the Fashion mart though... Main and Olympic... My Lord. Other than that downtown sucks and I'm bouncing back to Venice next month. Can't wait to breathe again, to walk down the streets and see green again.

PS If you bank at BofA in downtown, hit the branch in the mart. Best service ever, never any lines. A hidden gem.

My apologies about LA.

Fucking sad sad place dude.
It's fun to visit, but the last place you should want to live.
