Developing ecommerce site - Paypal enough?
I'm working with someone where we are going to selling a product (mainstream, but actually a service) but I'm wondering if paypal will be enough for a merchant?
I currently have an account with Authorize.net and can link that up, but requires a lot more development... is it worth it? I have a feeling that some will turn away if you have to use paypal to process your credit card, but again, most people see this as safe. Otherwise I have to setup an SSL and secure server. Price point is $300 or $500 one time purchase. Thoughts? |
Depends on the volume I'd think, for example the purchaser might think: "Hrmm this is all great but why are they using paypal, must be small time or a scam."
That's what I'd think at least. Also for growth etc a merchant would put you in the fast lane from day one, not to mention 24 hour settlement to your bank so you can re-invest etc. |
You'll need to figure out if you're target customer has and knows how to use Paypal. I owned a store online that was selling products with an average price point of about the same as yours and I started out with Paypal... Once I switched to CC + Paypal back up, sales increased 10x

paypal has merchant accounts now and can process cc transactions seamlessly. the big problem is the hold, they hold back how much ever they want and then release that daily 90 days later for the life of the account.

doesn't fivver just use paypal? they are big.

Why would you have to setup SSL and secure server, if you're going to use mainstream CC processors?
|
Alot of people find security in using paypal so i'd never dismiss it - its cheap, instant and they protect YOU and the buyer :D but yes they do holds and other minimizing tactics at first usually. a local bank might be able to help you and have simple tools to get you going asap :D

Hi,
Paypal is a good secondary payment option. However, I invite you to compare all of the tools and functionality that NETbilling can provide over Paypal or Authorize.net. Please contact us with any questions. We are happy to help. Mitch |
We use paypal on a mainstream product... with the merchant solutions they can pay with a credit card or with paypal.
I've never heard a complaint and I've been using them this way for a several years... and the ratios are godly and it's cheap! If you ONLY had paypal, like send me a paypal, yeah it's going to be limited, not everyone has a paypal account or wants one. |
