Funny, there is no mention of the gays during the formation of the Nazi Party. However, I think many gays received extended sentences at the concentration camps.

Rudolf Hess, hitler's deputy who was post-war sentenced to life in Berlin's Spandau Prision, was a prisoner whom I had to check on every time I was the U.S Army Command Duty Officer while stationed with the Berlin Brigade 1964-1966.

Like the other Command Duty Officers, I had to go into the prision and physically "lay eyes" on him to make certain that he was still in his cell.

Berlin was an interesting assignment, especially the patrols though Checkpoint Charlie into and around the Russian Sector on the other side of The Wall.

Dave, you wouldn't recognize East Berlin today. No longer grey, drab, dirty and bullet pock-marked, they have made a remarkable rebirth and are rapidly catching up with West Berlin.

That the SA (Sturmabteilung ) was heavily populated by gays has been known for years. Ernst Röhm, head of the SA was an ally of Hitler from the early days of the Nazi Party and well-known as a flaming fag.

The "Night of The Long Knives" (Nacht der langen Messer) was as necessary for Hitler to control the SS (Schutzstaffel ) as it was for Hitler to erase any history of his likely bi-sexual, if not homosexual past.

Adolf Hitler is known to have only two heterosexual relationships in his life; one with Geli Raubal; his niece, who committed suicide because she wanted to leave Hitler in favor of one of his compatriots; Gregor Strasser; brother of Otto, referred to later in this post, (Or was she murdered?) and with Eva Braun (Pronounced: Ava Brown, NOT "Eeva Brawn!)

Several of the SA members murdered on The Night of The Long Knives (June 30 and July 2, 1934) were found in bed with their boyfriends, who were also shot on sight.

Interviewed in 1971 by this author and Professor Richard Sidman of the University of Kansas, Otto Strasser referred to Ernst Röhm as the "worst kind of public homosexual and deviant" who "had to be eliminated" by HItler to protect his notorious past.

Staatsoberhaupt und Reichspräsident, Großadmiral Karl Dönitz (HItler's successor as Head of State), when interviewed in the early 1970s in Germany by this author and several USA and German submarine commanders, indicated with no questions asked, that Hitler was not homosexual and that such stories were lies, despite the fact that Hitler is provenly known to have had a "roommate" before WW I, with whom he slept in the same bed and addressed in nearly overtly loving terms in letters which survive to this day.

Of course, Old Karl was a fucking die-hard Nazi to his last breath and although most information that he left us is 100% on the mark and verifiable, this tidbit is more than subject to be taken with more than a grain of salt.

That the SA was heavily populated with gays is no longer a question but rather a determined fact.
