Going rate for 100mbps MANAGED servers?

What's the going rate these days for a server using 100mbps and are fully managed?

Barefootsies 06-13-2011 07:29 AM

Fully managed? You are typically in the $200-300.00+ range depending on carrier.

Unmanaged you can get at around $100.00-150.00.

Depending on whther or not you need raid and so on, Amerinoc have two advertised solutions here: https://www.amerinoc.com/dedicated.php

One for $133 per month and one for $325 per month, if paid quarterly.

I can really recommend the $325 one, I'm very happy myself.

I thought prices would have come down more on 100mb BW, same pricing as 2 years ago.

Bandwidth is far less of a factor as it once was. You asked for a managed server, not just bandwidth. Hardware, space, power, quality techs, network, etc all cost money to maintain.

You can get lower pricing I'm sure, but there is a reason that pricing has settled in where it has with most established managed server providers.

Considaring L3 and global crossing are now 1 tier1 network.

Mzima + Packetexcahnge + WBS + GT-T = One tier2 network

Bandcon + highwinds = Tier2 network

WVfiber + host.net = tier2 network

Century link + qwest + savvis = now tier1 network

You can see 5 tier1 networks now consolidated to 2 tier 1 networks and 8 tier2 networks now became 3 tier2 networks.

Bandwidth pricing is going to start going UP due to less market competition. Global crossing was Level3's biggest competitor because global crossing was doing stupid cheap bandwidth deals. Now with that tier1 competitor gone L3 can now control more of the market share and drive up prices.

Rumor has it Cogent is trying to find a buyer... Above.net is trying to find a new buyer as well. So there is more network consolidation.

Exactly.

Management is a good $100+ extra per month with most providers.
